Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my appreciation because your hotel organizes an event with proper manners. I happy because that was first event organize by mine.

Event happened in the main hall of City Plaza of Lahore on 12 January 2026.

The funny part of that event the local singer Atif Aslam came to perform.

I really liked about the food dish specially the new one whose serving with white spice sauce that would give me absolute chill and happiness. But I did not forget about your great ambiance and blue cherry fragrance in all over the hall. The most beautiful thing in your hall was the crockery design. After that I found it in many shops in crockery market but never find it.

I was disappointed because your hall not chilled perfectly you should install more AC in your hall. I was suggesting you one more thing you should install 4 ventilations to improve the air flow.

Yours faithfully,

Asad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you identify the event as taking place in the main hall on 12 January, mention Atif Aslam’s performance, describe features you liked, and recommend more air conditioning and ventilation. The details about the food, fragrance and crockery make the appreciation personal and relevant. However, some points are not fully clear or developed. For example, the opening says the hotel “organizes an event,” which does not clearly explain your role in helping organise it, and the event’s purpose or nature is not specified. The improvement suggestions are relevant, but you could explain more precisely how the temperature and airflow affected guests. Clearer, fuller development of these details would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter follows a generally sensible order: you introduce your purpose, give event details, describe what you liked, and finish with suggestions. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these functions, and the closing is appropriate. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt. “The funny part of that event” introduces the singer without a clear link to the event description, while “After that” does not clearly show how the crockery search relates to your earlier point. Some connections, such as “But I did not forget,” sound mechanical or do not express the intended relationship. Use clearer transitions and organise related details together—for example, group the food, atmosphere and crockery as positive features, then explain the practical problem and its effect before making recommendations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt some specific vocabulary that gives the letter personality, including “ambiance,” “fragrance,” “crockery” and “ventilations.” These choices show an effort to describe the hotel rather than rely only on general praise. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, which sometimes makes the reader work to understand your meaning. “Proper manners” does not naturally describe how a hotel organises an event, and “absolute chill and happiness” is an unclear description of the food. “Blue cherry fragrance” is also difficult to interpret. Aim for precise, natural phrases such as “professional service,” “a pleasant aroma” and “a refreshing taste.” Check word forms too: “ventilation” is generally uncountable in this context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use a mixture of short statements and longer sentences, and the main message is usually understandable. However, there are some errors in sentence structure, verb forms and articles. For example, “I happy” needs a verb, and “that was first event organize by mine” has problems with the article, verb form and pronoun. The sentence “The funny part of that event the local singer…” is missing a main verb. In the suggestions, “your hall not chilled perfectly” also needs an auxiliary and a more suitable verb construction. Practise complete sentence patterns such as “I was pleased because this was the first event I had organised” and “The hall was not cool enough.” More accurate control of these basic forms, alongside varied sentence structures, would improve clarity.
