Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir / Madam

I am writing to express my appreciation for hotel services provided by your hotel during company event last week.

The event was corporate organization followed by dinner party of 100 employees. This celebration was held for our company achivement and discuss about future plans.

Firstly, i would like to say that services were over all excellent and we are satisfied with that. The organization by your staff was good. In purticular, decoration of the meeting room was cozy and attractive. The dinner was exceptional and all food items were looking pleasant and tasty. In addition to that arrangement for equipment for meeting was conveinent.

All area was perfect but some where required improvement like microphones which was disturbing voice i would say required correction. And also some of the hotel staff required training in serving the food.

Again i would say over all experience at your hotel was good and we like to booked for upcoming event.

Yours faithfully,

N oza

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you describe a company event and dinner for 100 employees, praise the room decoration, food and meeting equipment, and identify microphone problems and a need for staff training. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a hotel manager. Some details, however, are less fully developed than others. For example, the event’s purpose is only briefly stated as celebrating an achievement and discussing future plans, while the improvement suggestions do not explain how the microphone issue affected the event or what training would help. To strengthen the letter, add a little more specific context and make each suggestion clear and actionable. The closing also expresses interest in booking again, which gives the manager a useful indication of your overall view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the reason for writing, describes the event, gives positive feedback, and then turns to areas for improvement before closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and signposts such as “Firstly” and “In addition to that” make the sequence easy to follow. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the repeated use of “overall” and “And also” makes the progression less smooth. The contrast in “All area was perfect but some where required improvement” is also unclear because it does not specify what “some” refers to. Use more precise transitions and connect each point directly to its explanation—for instance, introduce the microphone problem as a specific exception to the otherwise positive assessment.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “corporate,” “decoration,” “exceptional,” “attractive,” and “equipment.” These choices communicate the main points, and the positive and negative aspects of the hotel are both identifiable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “corporate organization,” “food items were looking pleasant,” and “required correction.” Spelling errors, including “achivement,” “conveinent,” and “purticular,” also reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for natural combinations such as “company event,” “the food looked appetising,” and “the microphones need attention.” More precise phrasing would make your feedback sound clearer and more professional without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the message remains understandable throughout. There are some grammatical errors, particularly with articles, verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “during company event last week” needs an article, while “we like to booked” has an incorrect verb form; “All area was perfect” also has a number-agreement problem. The sentence “This celebration was held for our company achivement and discuss about future plans” does not maintain a clear grammatical structure between its two purposes. Review article use and keep verb forms parallel, such as “to celebrate our company’s achievement and discuss future plans.” More accurate sentence patterns would help you express the ideas with greater control.
