Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my experience of an event of The Randstand corp, held at your hotel.
Our company recently hosted its silver jubliee corporate gathering at your hotel on 12 October, which was attended by approximately 250 employess and other guests. Amost everyone gave positive feedback about the event.
I would really appreciate the warm hospitalilty by your staff. To be more precise, your hotel staff is professional as well as polite. Food served was fresh, delicious, and hot. Different seating and food arranagement made it convenient for everyone.
However, there are few areas that need improvement from your side. Firstly, parking was limited and some of our employees had to park their vehicles far away from the hotel. Secondly, the projector and sound system had some technical glitch, and technical staff was not there to help.
I would not hesitate to recommend you a better parking facility for the guests by reserving some space for them to avoid such kind of inconvenience. Moreover, the hotel authority is also laible to provide technician for emergency situation.
I hope you will find this constructive feedback useful and will work on that.
Thank you for a memorable event.
Yours faithfully,
Simrat

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a suitable, polite tone. You identify the event as the company’s silver-jubilee gathering, give its date and approximate attendance, describe the staff, food and arrangements positively, and specify problems with parking and the audiovisual equipment. The suggestions to reserve parking and provide technical support make the feedback useful. These details give the reader a clear account, although some points could be developed more fully—for example, explain how the technical fault affected the event or what parking arrangement would be practical. The closing also expresses appreciation appropriately. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with relevant support, but a little more specific development would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear progression: purpose and event details, positive features, areas for improvement, and a closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover” make the sequence easy to follow. The reader can understand the contrast between praise and criticism without difficulty. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and the final paragraph’s recommendations could connect more smoothly to the problems just described. For instance, introduce the parking and technical-support suggestions as direct solutions to the two issues. A few references, such as “work on that,” are also broad rather than precise. More varied transitions and clearer references would make the cohesion feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal complaint-and-feedback letter, including relevant expressions such as “corporate gathering,” “positive feedback,” “technical glitch,” and “constructive feedback.” The vocabulary communicates both appreciation and concerns, and the tone is generally appropriate. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations reduce accuracy: “jubliee,” “employess,” “Amost,” “hospitalilty,” and “laible” are examples. Phrases such as “hotel authority” and “such kind of inconvenience” are also less idiomatic in this context. These issues do not prevent understanding, but careful proofreading and more natural collocations would improve precision. Aim to use familiar formal expressions accurately rather than reaching for wording that sounds overly formal or unusual.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which was attended by approximately 250 employees and other guests” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the overall structure is controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, such as “there are few areas” where an article is needed, “staff is professional” where agreement with the collective noun should be considered, and “provide technician for emergency situation,” which needs appropriate articles and number. The sentence beginning “I would not hesitate to recommend you a better parking facility” also has an awkward grammatical pattern. To strengthen accuracy, check articles, agreement, and verb patterns, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
