Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

Firstly, I want to thank you for such an amazing and awsome event. It was well-managed and organised. Specially, meals were delicious, juicy and tasty. Indian and Chinese items like Panner Butter Masala and Noodles are too spicy to handle. Italian and Mexican desert taste meladious too. Lighting and decoration was also mind blowing. The idea of white and blue theme make it classy. Flowers like tulip and roses are the main highlights of the decoration. Moreover, DJ sounds rocking and every one can feel that heavy base and high tribles. Overall experience was too good and remarkable. But there are some negative feedbacks also from few guests regarding staff behaviour and late services. Few waiters treat our guests rudely and some females even feel uncomfortable because of them. Additionally, the location and parking facilities cause little trouble that make overall experience frantic and pathetic. I hope you will work on these feedbacks before our next event. Hope to see you shortly.

Your sincerly,

John

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the main purposes of the letter by describing the event, praising the hotel, and identifying problems. Details such as the white-and-blue theme, food, music, staff behaviour, and parking make the response relevant. However, the event itself is not clearly identified: the reader is not told what kind of company event it was or when it took place. Some points are also unclear or insufficiently explained, particularly the complaint that female guests felt uncomfortable and the difficulty caused by the location. To strengthen the letter, briefly establish the event’s context and explain the impact of each concern, while keeping the appreciative tone and making the requested improvements clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The ideas follow a broadly sensible order: you begin with thanks and positive comments, then move to complaints and close with a hope for future cooperation. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Overall,” and “Additionally” help signal these shifts. However, nearly all the information is presented in one long paragraph, so the praise and suggestions are not clearly separated. Some transitions feel abrupt, especially the move from the positive review to “But there are some negative feedbacks.” Group related details into paragraphs and use clearer links between the hotel’s strengths and the areas needing attention. This would make the progression easier to follow and reduce the list-like effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a varied range of descriptive language, including “well-managed,” “remarkable,” “mind blowing,” and “uncomfortable,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. However, several spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less natural, such as “awsome,” “meladious,” “tribles,” and “base.” Some expressions are also awkward or too informal for a letter to a hotel manager, including “too spicy to handle,” “DJ sounds rocking,” and “pathetic.” Choose precise, conventional phrases for praise and complaints, and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the music as “energetic” and the parking as “inconvenient” rather than using exaggerated or unclear wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes mostly straightforward sentences and some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “some females even feel uncomfortable because of them.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and verb forms occur throughout. Examples include “Lighting and decoration was,” “The idea … make it classy,” and “the location and parking facilities cause little trouble that make.” The closing also has a sentence fragment in “Hope to see you shortly.” Work on matching verbs to singular and plural subjects, and use complete sentences with consistent tense. A careful edit of each sentence for subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy and make the message smoother.
