Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to provide my feedback about the recent event that we have experienced in your hotel.
Last saturday, which was 14th of october, our company Lala compny held farewell party at your hotel. Although you arranged the whole event very well and all the service were top-notched especially the theme you selected for the decoration of the hall was quite impressive. The colour of ribbons and ballons were as same as our compny's logo which was very eye catching.
However, only area where we think you should pay attention was on

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the purpose of the letter and give relevant event details: your company held a farewell party on 14 October, and you describe the decoration and service positively. However, the response is incomplete and does not fully address the task. The improvement section stops at “only area where we think you should pay attention was on,” so the hotel receives no actual suggestion. The event description and praise are also brief, with little detail about the occasion or what worked especially well. The response is 53 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited development. Complete the improvement point and expand each required part with specific, useful details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter has a recognisable sequence: an opening purpose, details and praise, followed by a transition to a concern. “However” signals the change in direction effectively, and the paragraphs broadly separate the introduction from the event feedback. However, the final sentence is unfinished, leaving the letter without a clear ending or a complete progression to the requested suggestions. The ideas within the long second paragraph would also be easier to follow if the event details, positive comments and improvement request were separated. Use a complete closing paragraph and clear links between each point so the reader can follow the feedback from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “farewell party,” “decoration,” “theme” and “impressive.” These choices communicate the main points, and “eye catching” conveys a positive reaction. There are also attempts at more specific description, such as matching the ribbons and balloons to the company logo. However, some spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, including “compny,” “ballons” and “top-notched”; the natural expression is “top-notch.” “The whole event” is also broad where a more precise description of the hotel’s arrangements would help. Check spelling carefully and choose natural collocations to make the feedback more polished and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms. For example, the sentence beginning “Although you arranged the whole event very well” combines a subordinate clause with supporting details, showing some range. However, several grammatical errors remain. In “the recent event that we have experienced,” the present perfect is awkward for a completed event; “the event we recently held” would be more suitable. “All the service were” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “Last saturday, which was 14th of october” needs more accurate article use and punctuation. The final clause, “only area … was on,” is incomplete. Review agreement, articles and sentence completion while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
