Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I recently had the rare opportunity of organising the orthopedic workshop on 19th of september at first floor of your presitigious hotel. Undoubtebly, the event was managed very proficiently and smoothly, though I would like to discuss a few glitches which can be improved.

Your hotel had the most exuberant aura and an outstanding architecture, which made all the international participants of the conference to stand in awe when we first approached it from our coaster on arrival. Well maintained gardens in the exterior and interior, filled with fresh, delicate and aromatic flowers was the biggest attraction for all visitors. Some pupils were specially fascinated with the wide menu options featuring the middle-eastern and asian cuisines and the exceptionally rare mutton mandi was definitely the king of the dinner recipes.

With that being said, a few people had trouble finding way towards the conference hall and also towards the washrooms, causing delays in starting session after breaks. I would humbly request if you could have some sign boards installed at all turns, in addition to a few guides for each floor. Also the map can be displayed at the main entrance so guests could navigate comfortably. Another idea is a wifi based navigation app which could swiftly facilitate participant gatherings and guide them to meeting rooms.

I appreciate your efforts for continous improvement of the hotel services and look forward to your assistance in this regard.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0

The letter covers all three requested points clearly. You identify the event as an orthopaedic workshop, give its date and location, describe what you valued about the hotel, and offer practical improvements for wayfinding. The praise is supported with specific details, including the gardens, flowers and menu, while the suggestions—signboards, floor guides, an entrance map and app-based navigation—are relevant to the problem described. The purpose and courteous tone remain clear throughout, and the closing is appropriate. The event details could be slightly more precise—for example, the number of participants or the workshop’s purpose would add context—but this is a minor omission rather than a gap in task coverage. Overall, the ideas are well developed and the letter fulfils its purpose effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The information follows a clear progression: you introduce the event and your overall assessment, describe the hotel’s strengths, then explain a problem and propose solutions. Paragraphing supports this structure, and transitions such as “With that being said” help signal the move from praise to criticism. The suggestions are also grouped logically around navigation. Some linking is a little heavy or formal, particularly “With that being said” and “Another idea,” and the long sentence listing the hotel’s attractions could be divided to make the details easier to process. The reference to “the event” is clear, though the letter could connect the navigation problem more explicitly to its effect on the workshop schedule. The organisation is consistently clear, with some room for more seamless cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

You use a broad range of vocabulary and attempt less common expressions, including “exuberant aura,” “aromatic flowers,” “navigate comfortably” and “facilitate participant gatherings.” These choices help convey enthusiasm and make the improvement requests specific. There are occasional inaccuracies or unnatural collocations, however: “stand in awe” is somewhat overstated for a hotel visit, “coaster” may not be the intended term for the vehicle, and “dinner recipes” is not a natural way to describe menu items. Spelling errors such as “presitigious,” “Undoubtebly” and “continous” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrasing rather than choosing an elaborate expression where a simpler one fits better; this would make your vocabulary more consistently fluent and appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You attempt a useful mix of sentence forms, including a complex opening with “though,” a relative clause beginning “which made,” and conditional, polite requests such as “if you could have some sign boards installed.” Meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors persist. In “on 19th of september,” the date construction needs an article or a more natural form; “at first floor” needs “on the first floor.” The sentence beginning “Well maintained gardens” has a plural subject but ends with the singular verb “was,” and “finding way” needs a determiner. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues in the long description of the hotel. These are generally understandable, but checking articles, agreement and sentence structure would improve control.
