Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir / Madam,
The reason why I am writing this letter is to inform you about the service your hotel has provided for our event last week on May 5th.
The event was about the chilhood education particularly focusing on early education for pupil. I have organized this event at hotel as i got referrals from one of my friend. He used to work with you few years ago.
I would like to thank you for arraging games for childrens on our request all of them really enjoyed it. I know it was spontaneous request but your manager Kevin did really good job.
I have one suggestion, during breakfast I have requested to include vegetarian option but it got to my attention that the food hotel has provided was not fresh. it would be really helpful in the future event if your staff provides newly baked foods only. Apart from that everything was good.
Thanks again, for the service your staff has provided throughout the event.
Kind regards,
Jay Boy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you identify the event as being about childhood education, mention the children’s games and Kevin’s help, and suggest improving the breakfast food. The purpose is clear and the tone is appropriately polite. The event details are relevant, but the description of its scale or arrangements is limited, and the improvement point is not fully clear: you say you requested a vegetarian option, then explain that the food was not fresh and ask for newly baked food. Clarify whether the issue was the vegetarian choice, freshness, or both. To make the letter more complete, develop the event details and explain the problem and requested change more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement, moving from its purpose and event background to praise, a suggestion, and a courteous closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these functions, and links such as “Apart from that” and “Thanks again” support the progression. Some connections are less smooth: the referral from a former colleague is included but does not clearly explain why it matters to the hotel, and the shift from requesting a vegetarian option to complaining about freshness is abrupt. The opening also repeats the purpose in a somewhat formulaic way. Make the relationship between each detail explicit and use clearer transitions when introducing the breakfast concern to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, with relevant expressions such as “early education,” “spontaneous request,” and “vegetarian option.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors make the language less precise and natural, including “chilhood,” “arraging,” and “childrens.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, such as “the food hotel has provided” and “newly baked foods,” which may not clearly describe the breakfast problem. The range is somewhat repetitive, particularly around “event” and “service.” Check spelling carefully and choose more natural collocations, for example, “the food provided by the hotel” and “freshly prepared breakfast items.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and more developed structures, including “I know it was a spontaneous request, but your manager Kevin did a really good job.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “as i got referrals,” where the pronoun should be capitalised and the article and number need attention, and “I have requested to include vegetarian option,” which needs a clearer verb pattern and an article. The sentence beginning “it would be really helpful” also needs capitalisation and more controlled punctuation. Review articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, and aim to produce more consistently accurate complex sentences while retaining your clear meaning.
