Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my satisfaction with my recent event at your infrastructure and I would like to suggest areas for enhancement.
On Thursday, October 15th, our company booked a confrence room and five accomodation rooms for company's visitors. The conference room was spacious and had a good range of lighting and sitting area for the staff and special soffas for visitors and guests.
The service provided by hotel was commendable. Staff was very co-operative and responsible. They served the meals on time to guests and the cleaning service was on the top.
I would like to suggest to some improvement in the parking area because on the event day, our staff hardly get a parking spot because many cars were parked beyond the bay lanes and security guard was absent on that moment, so they found it challenging to locate a space to park their cars.
Thank you for your attention and I hope the parking issues could be solved at your earliest conveince for the better experience of visitors.
Yours faithfully,
Manveer Kaur Kaila.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: it identifies the event as a company booking on October 15, describes the conference room and accommodation, praises the staff and services, and explains the parking problem. The complaint is supported with a specific account of cars blocking the bays and the security guard being absent, so the manager can understand the issue. The positive comments about the hotel are also relevant, particularly the timely meals and cleaning service. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the event’s purpose or scale and give a more specific suggestion for preventing the parking problem, such as improved parking supervision. The overall purpose and tone remain clear and appropriate for a formal letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, useful sequence: the opening states the purpose, the next paragraphs describe the event and positive features, and the final body paragraph raises the improvement needed. This progression makes the letter easy to follow, and paragraphing separates the main points effectively. Linking phrases such as “The service provided by hotel” and “I would like to suggest” help signal shifts in focus. Some connections within sentences are less smooth, especially the long explanation of the parking difficulty, where several reasons are joined together. Breaking that sentence into two would make the cause and impact clearer. The closing is appropriately placed, though a more direct transition from the complaint to the requested action would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes some suitably formal choices, such as “commendable,” “spacious,” and “enhancement.” The writer also uses relevant event and hotel terms, including “conference room,” “accommodation rooms,” and “parking area,” so the message is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “your infrastructure” is not a natural way to refer to a hotel, “sitting area” is unclear in this context, and “on the top” does not convey the intended praise idiomatically. There are also spelling errors in “confrence,” “accomodation,” and “conveince.” More precise, natural collocations and careful proofreading would improve control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including the opening sentence with “and” and the explanation of the parking problem with “because” and “so.” Meaning is generally clear, and the paragraphs contain several straightforward sentences that are easy to understand. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “for company's visitors,” a possessive determiner or article is needed; “Staff was” would be more accurate as “The staff were” or “The staff was”; and “I would like to suggest to some improvement” has an incorrect sentence pattern. The parking sentence also shifts from past context to “get,” where “could hardly find” would fit better. Improving articles, agreement, and sentence control would make the writing more accurate.
