Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to you regarding the recent conference held in your hotel for two days 9th and 10th October 2026. This was the conference of all the travel agents Association's annual elections for President, Vice-Presidentand Treasurer. We have booked almost 50 rooms and banquet for about 70 people for both the days.

Our Board members and other members of the Association were liked the rooms , the way it maintained and cleaned on every morning and when they require any clean up anytime in a day. Also We required the change in the banner at the last minute and your staff helped us a lot without any delay. I would like to appreciate the effort of your hotel staff.

Apart from all the positive things, There is some areas where we think hotel needs some imprrovements. Hotel can welcome clients in happy manner and can provide welcome drinks because sometimes clients came from too far. Washrrom can be accessible little closer because washroom is about 10 min wanl from banquet.

I hope you can understand and take our feedback positively. Thank you again for helped us in organising wonderful conference.

Thanks and Regards,

Martha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, appropriate purpose. You identify the event as the Association’s annual elections, give the dates, and mention the booking of rooms and a banquet. Your praise is supported with specific examples, including room cleanliness and staff assistance with a last-minute banner change. You also offer two relevant suggestions: a warmer welcome with drinks and easier access to the washroom. These details make the response complete and well supported. To strengthen it further, explain the practical impact of the improvement requests—for example, how the distance to the washroom affected guests—and make the event description slightly clearer, since the wording about the elections is difficult to follow.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: the opening explains the event, the next paragraph gives positive feedback, and the final body paragraph presents improvements before a courteous closing. This logical progression makes the purpose easy to identify. You also use basic links such as “Apart from all the positive things” and “Also” to connect points. However, some connections and references are awkward or unclear, particularly “This was the conference of all the travel agents Association's annual elections,” and the long sentence beginning “Our Board members and other members…” combines several ideas without clear boundaries. For a stronger progression, use shorter, more controlled sentences and link each suggestion explicitly to its reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to a formal hotel-feedback letter, including “annual elections,” “banquet,” “last minute,” and “improvements,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There is some useful specificity in describing the staff’s help and the room-cleaning service. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “clients came from too far,” “welcome clients in happy manner,” and “take our feedback positively.” Spelling errors such as “imprrovements,” “Washrrom,” and “wanl” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations, such as “guests travelling a long distance” and “a warm welcome,” and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the letter’s main message remains understandable. However, control is inconsistent, with errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Our Board members … were liked the rooms” has an incorrect verb pattern; “There is some areas” does not agree in number; and “Thank you again for helped us” uses the wrong form after “for.” The sentence about the conference and elections is also difficult to parse because its grammatical relationships are unclear. Improve accuracy by using straightforward patterns where needed: “Our members liked the rooms,” “There are some areas,” and “Thank you for helping us.” Check punctuation and capitalisation within sentences as well.
