Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to you for providing a quick feedback. I recently booked your hotel for organising an office event.
So, here are some details regarding event. The event was about the 50th anniversery of our company, for that my office manager liked to celebrate on big scale. Moreover, the party was held on Saturday as well there are about 100 people joined that such party.
Firstly, there are some thigs which i liked about the hotel is that the party hall is quite big along with that the decoration is quite impressive. Moreover, staff is also friendly and doing well.
There are some areas which required some improvement. The reception desk need some renovation and there was only one receptionist over there, so could you please solve these minor issues.
I hope this matter require your attention.
Yours sincerly,
Komalpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter covers all three requested points: it identifies the event as the company’s 50th anniversary, mentions the large hall, decoration and friendly staff, and asks for improvements to the reception area and staffing. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for writing to a hotel manager. However, some details are less fully developed than others. For example, the event description gives the day and approximate attendance, but the sentence about the celebration is unclear; the improvement request also does not explain how the reception or staffing affected guests. To strengthen the response, state the event details more precisely and give a brief, specific reason for each suggested improvement. The letter already shows some clear development, but not all points are equally supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: opening and purpose, event details, positive comments, then suggestions and closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these functions, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Firstly” show an attempt to connect ideas. Some cohesion is mechanical or unclear, however. “So, here are some details” is conversational, while “Firstly” is not followed by a corresponding “Secondly”; “for that” and “over there” also make relationships or references less precise. Use simpler, more direct transitions and ensure each pronoun clearly refers to a specific place or issue. The overall progression is coherent, but more natural and precise linking would make it smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main message, with relevant terms such as “anniversary,” “party hall,” “decoration,” “reception desk” and “renovation.” The writer also attempts phrases such as “on a big scale,” but several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make the language noticeably less natural: “quick feedback,” “joined that such party,” “thigs,” “anniversery” and “sincerly.” Some expressions are also vague, including “doing well” and “minor issues.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall purpose, but they reduce precision and may cause some difficulty. Build a more reliable set of formal event and service phrases, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, for example the sentence beginning “The event was about…” and the request beginning “The reception desk…”. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. Examples include “the party was held on Saturday as well there are about 100 people joined,” where the clauses are not joined correctly, and “the party hall is quite big along with that the decoration is quite impressive,” which needs clearer sentence structure. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms, as in “The reception desk need” and “this matter require.” Practise joining clauses with appropriate conjunctions and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and tense. More accurate sentence patterns would make the message easier to read.
