Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
My name is Kamaljeet Kaur, and I work as a Sales manager in Inbound company. I am writing to give you feedback regarding the conference event which was organized by my copmany at your hotel, Redisson.
The event was well organized as per the needs and requirements of the company's CEO. The CEO was appreciating your team including the receptionist, catering staff and chefs, all who were handled everything responsibly. As the approach for the event was on a short notice; however, the event decor team put their heart and soul to do it accordingly as per the requirement of the event.
I would really like to appreciate the banquet hall, the space was very large to accomodate [redacted phone] people. One thing that really impressed me, is the furniture- tables and chairs. The chairs were so comfortable as the attendants were feeling so relaxed, no complaints of back pain. Often, it has been noticed that attendants get irritated when it come to sitting on chairs for long hours.
However, your team did a great job but I would like to recommend that in the food menu please add some more items in the starter as there were only 3. Adding to it, please ensure that food is being served on time as it was delayed one hour and the attendants were starving with hunger.
I hope you will consider my recommendations positively. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Kamaljeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: it identifies the conference organised by the company, praises the banquet hall and staff, and recommends expanding the starter menu and improving service timing. The details about the event being arranged at short notice and accommodating 100–150 people make the feedback relevant and specific. The one-hour food delay also gives a clear reason for the suggested improvement. To strengthen the response further, develop the event context slightly—for example, state when it took place or what the conference was for—and make the improvement requests more precise, such as suggesting a serving schedule. The purpose and tone remain clear and appropriately courteous throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: introduction, comments on the event and staff, praise for the venue, suggestions, and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish the positive feedback from the recommendations, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Adding to it” signal shifts between ideas. Some connections are less smooth: “The event was well organized … The CEO was appreciating your team” moves abruptly from the event to staff, while “However, your team did a great job but” combines two contrasting signals unnecessarily. Use more natural transitions and clearer references between sentences to make the progression feel more controlled. Overall, the message remains easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for a formal feedback letter, with relevant terms such as “banquet hall,” “catering staff,” “attendants,” and “recommendations.” The writer also attempts more expressive phrases, including “put their heart and soul,” though this is less suitable for a professional letter. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the CEO was appreciating,” “approach for the event,” and “starving with hunger.” There are also spelling errors in “copmany,” “Redisson,” and “accomodate.” These do not prevent understanding, but greater accuracy and more natural formal phrasing would improve the overall effect. Prefer concise, conventional expressions suited to business correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some grammatical errors remain. In “all who were handled everything responsibly,” the passive construction is incorrect; use “all of whom handled everything responsibly.” “The chairs were so comfortable as the attendants were feeling so relaxed” has an unclear comparison and an awkward tense choice. There are also issues with articles and agreement, as in “in the food menu please add some more items in the starter” and “when it come to sitting.” Punctuation around “The event was well organized …” and “One thing that really impressed me” could also be controlled more carefully. Review clause structure, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
