Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this to provide feedback about the End of year Party I organized for my Co-workers at Rodeo Hotel. Each of my Staff had the opportunity to invite a family or friend as we appreciated and gifted them for being a great support system to our Workers throughout the year.
It was a sucessful event and i was pleased on how the hall effectively accomodated the large capacity of almost 100 guest. The Air conditioners functioned properly enabling a well ventilated environment which made the atmosphere cozy. I really admired the Ballet area of the room because of how spacious it was, which enabled free movement while dancing. Also, the flooring was not just aesthetically pleasing but comfortable for smooth movement.
Although, i was not satisfied with the cooling packs Rodeo Hotel provided as it did not provide the required temperature for my attendees.
Thank you for the great service. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Julian Ogharonmo

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requested points: it explains that this was an end-of-year party for co-workers and their guests, praises the hall and its facilities, and identifies a problem with the cooling packs. The details about nearly 100 guests, the air conditioning and the dance area make the feedback relevant and specific. The positive comments are more fully developed than the suggestion for improvement, which is limited to saying the packs did not reach the required temperature. To strengthen the response, explain what temperature or outcome was needed and suggest a practical improvement, such as checking or replacing the packs before an event. The purpose and polite tone are clear, with some ideas already supported by useful detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the event is introduced, the hotel’s strengths are described, and the concern is raised before the closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and connectors such as “Also” and “Although” guide the reader through the points. However, the praise is concentrated in one long paragraph, while the improvement point is very brief, so the balance and progression could be clearer. “Although” at the start of the concern paragraph is not followed by a contrasting main clause, making the link slightly awkward. Use a separate paragraph for the improvement and connect it directly to the earlier praise, for example, “One area that could be improved is…”.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for a formal feedback letter and includes some useful, specific choices, such as “well ventilated,” “spacious,” “aesthetically pleasing” and “free movement.” These help convey what worked well at the venue. There are, however, several spelling errors, including “sucessful” and “accomodated,” and some word choices or collocations are imprecise: “Ballet area” appears to mean the dance area, while “cooling packs” and “required temperature” do not make the problem entirely clear. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in phrases such as “Co-workers” and “Staff.” Proofread spelling and choose precise terms for the facilities and equipment so the reader can understand the feedback immediately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “the hall effectively accommodated the large capacity” and the participle construction “enabling a well ventilated environment.” Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors and punctuation choices reduce accuracy. For example, “i was pleased on how” should be “I was pleased with how,” and “Although, i was not satisfied…” uses an unnecessary comma after “Although” and an incorrectly lowercase “I.” In “the cooling packs … as it did not provide,” the pronoun does not agree clearly with the plural subject; use “they did not provide” or recast the sentence. Review agreement, prepositions and sentence punctuation while retaining the range of structures attempted.
