Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
My name is Kamaljeet Kaur, and I work as a Marketing head at Inbound company. I am writing to share my feedback regarding the recent conference event which was held at your hotel, Park View.
The event was held on 23rd of last month at short notice. As my boss, Mr. Mittal wanted to include catering, decorations and of course trustworthy team to handle the whole event. I really appreciate the efforts from you and your team, who had a great sense of understanding the requirements of the client. Moreover, the catering staff was so humble and handled the attendees politely.
I would really like to appreciate the spacious banquet hall, which had easily accomodated [redacted phone] people. Especially the furniture-tables and chairs, as it is often seen that attendees find it difficult to sitting for long hours. Adding to it, the chairs were so comfortable that there was no complain of discomfort or back pain.
However, the event decor, catering and furniture were so good, but I would like to advise that if possible add more food items to the starter menu so that the attendees will have more options. Furthermore, the main course was late by one hour, please ensure that it is on-time or inform the manager or the attendees so they do not feel irritated.
I hope you will consider my advise and respond positively.
Yours faithfully,
Kamaljeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: it identifies the conference and its date, praises the hotel’s staff and banquet hall, and recommends expanding the starter menu and preventing or communicating delays. The positive comments are supported with relevant detail, such as the hall accommodating 100–150 people and the comfortable chairs. The improvement points are also clear and practical. This fits the descriptor because the task is fully addressed and the ideas are extended, although some details could be more precisely explained—for example, what made the event short-notice or how the one-hour delay affected the event. A more consistently formal, direct opening and a clearer distinction between praise and recommendations would strengthen the letter further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear progression: the purpose of writing, event and staff feedback, facilities, then suggestions and a closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these functions, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “However” guide the sequence. The overall organisation is logical and easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however: “However, the event decor, catering and furniture were so good, but…” combines two contrasting linkers, making the relationship awkward. The transition from the praise of the chairs to the recommendations could also be more deliberate. Use one contrast marker at a time and make references between sentences more precise to achieve more consistently flexible cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant event-related terms such as “catering,” “banquet hall,” “attendees,” and “starter menu.” The writer also attempts more specific expressions, including “spacious” and “discomfort,” and the meaning remains clear. Some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “Marketing head” would be more naturally expressed as “head of marketing,” “trustworthy team” does not clearly convey the intended event-service quality, and “no complain of discomfort” is not idiomatic. There are also spelling errors in “accomodated” and “advise” where the noun “advice” is needed. Aim for natural business-letter collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter uses a mix of simple and more complex structures, including relative clauses (“which was held at your hotel”) and a conditional suggestion (“if possible add more food items”). Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the range is sufficient for a formal letter. Some grammatical errors remain, though they rarely obstruct understanding. For example, “As my boss, Mr. Mittal wanted…” is an incomplete or awkwardly attached clause, and “find it difficult to sitting” should use an infinitive construction. The sentence beginning “However” also joins contrasting clauses incorrectly, while “the main course was late by one hour, please ensure…” needs clearer sentence separation. Review clause structure, verb patterns, and punctuation to make the more complex sentences consistently controlled.
