Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir,

I write this letter to inform you about the event that my company organised in your hotel name Darshan which was done well at the end and some of the things were very greatful and recommended however there are some areas where your hotel needs some improvement.

The event was about get to gather and team lunch with some entertainment. Total time of the event was 8 hours and in that first 2 hours eating lunch and after in remaining hours, our comapny organise games and giving gifts to employees and event started at 9 am.

I perticularly thank to hotel manager about such arrangments for games and lunch. I also give credit to your food as our employees liked your food taste and cleaniness. Morover, your hotel staff also very helpful and kind as they helped me to arrange all the things for giving ideas of game and needed arrangments for that.

I just say that your hotel needs some improvement in such areas for instance, it is so confusing to find locations about rooms and washrooms. So please put one map in each floor for guidense of customer otherwise all are amazing for me.

Yours faithfully,

Yashkumar Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that the event was a company get-together and team lunch, describe games and gifts, praise the food and staff, and suggest adding floor maps. These details make the letter relevant and give the manager a clear sense of your experience. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The event description gives its timing and activities, but the purpose and scale of the gathering remain unclear; likewise, the map suggestion would be stronger if you explained how guests struggled to find facilities. The opening also sounds more like a general report than a direct letter to the manager. Develop each point with one or two precise details and a clear, courteous request.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the opening introduces your feedback, the next paragraph describes the event, and later paragraphs cover what you liked and what could improve. This logical progression helps the reader follow the main message, and phrases such as “I also give credit” and “for instance” signal relationships between ideas. However, some sentences contain several points joined together, making the progression less smooth—for example, the opening combines the event’s success, praise, and the need for improvement. The final suggestion is also attached to a broad concluding comment. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more deliberate links between the event details, your praise, and the practical recommendation to make cohesion more flexible and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “team lunch,” “entertainment,” “employees,” “staff,” and “washrooms.” The reader can understand what happened and what you appreciated. However, the range is limited, and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “greatful,” “perticularly,” “cleaniness,” and “guidense.” Some phrases are also unnatural for a formal letter, including “get to gather” and “I just say.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and a more formal register: for example, describe the event as a “team-building gathering” and say that you “would like to suggest” an improvement. Proofreading spelling and word forms will make your message more polished and easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message is generally understandable. However, control is uneven, especially in longer sentences where verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are not consistently accurate. For example, “I write this letter” would be more appropriate as “I am writing this letter,” while “our company organise games and giving gifts” mixes verb forms and does not clearly show the sequence of actions. The sentence beginning “Total time of the event was 8 hours” also needs clearer grammatical structure to distinguish the lunch from the remaining activities. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea each, and check tense consistency, subject–verb agreement, and articles before combining clauses.
