Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. Last monday, I booked your hotel for organising an event. I was quite impressed by your service.

I booked it for celebration for our boss birthday and it went really well. We were around 25 people and seating was suited for us. My sir also liked the decoration and food.

I particulary liked about the hotel was lunch. It was very delicious and mouth watering. Most importantly, there was a playing room for children. Our boss had a kid around 4 year old and he did fun in the room. Besides that, I was impressed by bathrooms because they were so clean.

Overall, myself and team-mates did really enjoyed there. We enjoyed your company and the staff was well behaved. I think there is a issue in the parking area, it was small. We had a difficulty during parking our car and had to wait for 10 minutes.

I believe you will take it positively. I hope I will visit again with my family in the future and will also arrange other meetings in your hotel.

Thank you,

Yours faithfully,

Rajandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain that the hotel hosted a birthday celebration for your boss with about 25 guests, praise the food, children’s room and clean bathrooms, and identify limited parking as an area to improve. The purpose is clear and the positive, polite tone suits a letter to a manager. The event details and the parking problem are relevant, but some points are only briefly explained; for example, you mention a ten-minute wait without clarifying how the parking arrangement affected guests or suggesting a specific improvement. To strengthen the response further, develop the event context and make the improvement request more precise. The letter already shows some effective detail, but not all ideas are equally extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the booking, describes the event, gives positive feedback, and then raises a concern before closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these purposes, and linking expressions such as “Besides that,” “Overall,” and “I believe” guide the reader. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs is not always smooth. For instance, the shift from the children’s room to the bathrooms is abrupt, while “Overall” introduces further praise and then the parking complaint in the same paragraph. The reference in “I booked it” is also slightly unclear. Grouping the positive features together and giving the parking issue its own paragraph would make the organisation more controlled and the relationships between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and your evaluation, including “celebration,” “decoration,” “mouth watering,” and “parking area.” There is some attempt to use descriptive language, and the reader can understand the main message. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “I particularly liked about the hotel was lunch,” “he did fun in the room,” and “the staff was well behaved.” Spelling errors such as “particulary” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural phrases that fit a formal letter, such as “I particularly enjoyed the lunch,” “he had fun in the playroom,” and “the staff were courteous.” This would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate the main information using a mixture of short statements and some longer sentences, including “We were around 25 people and seating was suited for us.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make a sentence awkward. Examples include “for celebration for our boss birthday,” “Our boss had a kid around 4 year old,” and “myself and team-mates did really enjoyed there.” These involve article use, possessive forms, agreement, and verb construction. There are also tense and sentence-pattern issues in “I particularly liked about the hotel was lunch.” Practise building accurate clauses and checking verb forms, for example: “We booked the hotel to celebrate our boss’s birthday” and “My teammates and I really enjoyed our time there.”
