Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to thank you for amazing birthday party of my daughter who turned 9, which was organized by Hyatt of Downtown Austin on August 11. I was really happy with the event and impressed by the decoration. You had all the decoration aligned with sponge bob theme with beachy vibes. The cake was two tier with attention to detail, food was scrumptious with colourful mocktails.

The service was amazing to begin with and every event was performed in timely fashion. Except one mishap after cake cutting all the food was removed and I communicated it to Hyatt team, so it was put back after sometime. Although food was put back after 15-20 minutes but some of my friend left without any food.

I would suggest going forward have the sequence of event cofirmed by the host and Hyatt should follow it .

I really appreciate the party organized by Hyatt and I would be happy to answer any questions you would have. Overall it was amazing experience I would higly recommend Hyatt to all my friends.

Your faithfully,

Swetta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter clearly covers all three required points: it identifies the event as your daughter’s ninth birthday party, describes what you appreciated about the decorations, cake, food and service, and gives a specific suggestion about confirming the event sequence. The account of the food being removed and later returned also explains the improvement you are requesting. These details make the purpose clear and support your positive overall view of the hotel. To develop the ideas further, explain more precisely how the food interruption affected the event or what procedure you would like the hotel to adopt. The closing recommendation is clear, though the letter could maintain a more consistently formal tone when addressing the manager.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the opening explains why you are writing, the next paragraph describes the event and service, and the final paragraphs present the problem, suggestion and closing appreciation. This gives the reader a coherent overall account. You also use linking expressions such as “Although” and “Overall” to show relationships between ideas. However, some connections are abrupt: “Except one mishap” introduces the complaint without a smooth transition, and the suggestion is separated into a very short paragraph. The reference in “it was put back” is understandable but could be more explicit. Use clearer transitions and connect the incident directly to the requested change to make the progression more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a celebration and evaluating the hotel, including “attention to detail,” “timely fashion,” “scrumptious,” and “recommend.” These choices help convey enthusiasm and make the event vivid. There are also some inaccurate or informal expressions that limit precision, such as “all the decoration aligned with sponge bob theme,” “every event was performed,” and “food was put back.” Spelling errors in “cofirmed” and “higly” are noticeable, while “beachy vibes” is conversational for a formal letter to a manager. Aim for more natural collocations and a consistently appropriate register; for example, describe the food as being “cleared away” and the activities as “running to schedule.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “my daughter who turned 9” and the concession introduced by “Although.” Most of the message remains easy to understand, and the sequence of events is clear. Some grammatical errors and awkward constructions remain, however. In “thank you for amazing birthday party,” the article is missing; “the cake was two tier” needs a plural or hyphenated adjective form; and “I would suggest going forward have the sequence” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The final sentence also needs an article in “it was amazing experience.” Review articles, sentence construction after “suggest,” and punctuation between closely connected clauses to improve accuracy.
