Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter on behalf of my company to share our experience regarding the event we organsied at your hotel. Last week, we had a massive company event in your hotel, named 'What the Future looks like'. My company, M.N Internationals, annually organise the events for its 20,000 employees and I was helping in organising the event. The event took place for the entire day and had a massive success.

I would like to appreciate your catering team for serving amazing diverse food. The labels on the food were clearly stating type of food, with its ingredients, which made it easy for everyone to choose food according to their preferences. Moreover, the reception staff provided excellent service and helped attendees with their queries. Everyone really enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel.

However, there were some areas which require some improvement is, firstly, there were some technical issues in the beginning of the event, which disrupted the discussion and had to wait for your technician to fix it. Additionally, I shared the outlet about how chairs should have be kept in the hall, so that it was convenient for disability individuals too but it was not managed as I requested. I would like to take consider these issues and make improvements.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Jenny

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points: it identifies the event as “What the Future looks like,” describes the catering and reception service positively, and raises technical and seating concerns. The purpose is clear and the details about food labels and accessibility make the feedback relevant. This meets the task well, but the points are not equally developed: the event itself is only briefly described, and the improvement requests do not explain what action the hotel should take. The closing sentence, “I would like to take consider these issues and make improvements,” is also unclear about whether you are asking the manager to act. To strengthen the response, develop the event details slightly and state each requested improvement directly and politely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure, moving from the event details to positive comments and then to areas for improvement. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Additionally” help guide the reader. This is a coherent arrangement, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “there were some areas which require some improvement is, firstly” makes the transition difficult to follow, while the final sentence does not clearly connect the concerns to a request. Use a simpler signpost such as “There are two areas that could be improved.” Keep each concern in a clear sentence and use references such as “these issues” only when the intended action is explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint-and-feedback letter, including “catering team,” “ingredients,” “attendees,” “queries,” and “hospitality.” These choices communicate the main points, and the tone is generally appropriate. There are, however, some inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors that make parts less natural: “organsied” is misspelled, “massive success” is an awkward collocation here, and “shared the outlet” does not express the intended meaning. “Disability individuals” is also not an appropriate phrase. Aim for precise, conventional expressions, such as “the event was a great success,” “informed your staff,” and “guests with disabilities.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make the message more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the sentence explaining that food labels helped guests choose according to their preferences. Most meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. In “My company … annually organise,” the subject and verb do not agree; “there were some areas which require some improvement is” has a faulty clause structure; and “chairs should have be kept” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence about waiting for the technician also lacks a clear subject. Review agreement, modal and perfect verb patterns, and sentence boundaries. Recasting the longer sentences into two well-formed clauses would preserve your detail while improving accuracy.
