Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear manager,
I am writting this letter to thank you for the event that was held at your hotel last sunday. The event was a sucess and everyone had a great time. Staff at your hotel emporio were warm and welcoming. Catering food and services were spectacular. Our 50th year celevration went great but there are few suggestions as a customer that might help your hotel to bloom better for fututre hosting.
The hotel had an amazing banquette hall with amazinf facalities. But with poor lights and audio quality the presentation of our team member didnt look good. Some of our collegues and guest had hard time hearing the presentation and the speech prepared. This definetilfy caused us some inconvience but after change of audio system the event went smoothly. My request is to keep in mind about more light fixtures as well as to run audio rehersal before hosting such big events.
Overall the event was sucessfull and we do hope to host more events at your hotel. Our guest enjoyed the food, services and sitting arrangment were great and spacious. I hope you take our feedback in great spirit and work on it . Once again thank you for hosting us we had an amazing time at your hotel.
Thank you,
Kiara

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three parts of the task: you identify the occasion as a 50th-year celebration, describe positive features such as the welcoming staff and catering, and recommend better lighting and an audio rehearsal. The purpose is clear and the tone is generally appreciative, which suits a letter to a hotel manager. The improvement points are relevant and supported by the effect on guests, who struggled to hear the presentation. To make the response more fully developed, clarify what the celebration marked and give a little more specific detail about the event or the service issue. Also use the requested opening, “Dear Sir / Madam,” and a more formal closing to make the letter consistently appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with thanks and event context, moves to the problems and suggestions, then ends positively. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “But” and “Overall” make the progression understandable. However, some connections are abrupt or unclear. For example, “after change of audio system the event went smoothly” does not explain who arranged the change or when it happened, and the final paragraph repeats praise for the food and services already mentioned. Use clearer transitions to show the sequence of events and avoid repeating the same evaluation. A more conventional salutation and sign-off would also help the letter feel more consistently organised for its audience.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for describing a hotel event, including “warm and welcoming,” “spectacular,” “audio quality,” and “light fixtures.” These choices communicate both appreciation and the areas needing attention. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “writting,” “sucess,” “amazinf,” and “definetilfy,” and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “Catering food and services” and “bloom better.” These errors reduce the accuracy and polish of the vocabulary, even though the main message remains clear. Aim for standard spelling and more natural collocations, such as “the catering and service were excellent” and “improve future events.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the main ideas are generally understandable. For instance, “Some of our colleagues and guests had a hard time hearing the presentation” gives a clear account of the problem, while the request for improvements is expressed directly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “there are few suggestions,” the article is missing; “the speech prepared” needs a clearer grammatical construction; and “Our guest enjoyed the food, services and sitting arrangment were great” joins two clauses incorrectly. There are also inconsistent sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as the space before the full stop in “work on it .” Review articles, clause structure, and punctuation, and proofread each sentence to improve accuracy.
