Dear Sir / Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to give my feedback about your hotel's arrangements for my company's event.

I am Shraddha Kapadia and I work for Yew Technologies. Recently, I have organised a retirement party at your hotel. It held on 14th October, 2026 at 5pm and we booked a conference room. It was a cocktail party followed by a dinner.

I am really impressed with the decoration and the quality of the food. Even service was really good. Apart from this, all the crew members were extremely helpful. We asked one of the crew members to take a group photo and he took a plethora of photos as well as made some reels.

The only thing for which I am a little bit disappointed is the arrangement of the conference room. It should have a good quality of microphone so that everybody can listen properly. The mic was continuously turning off and on. So, it was a problem while we were distributing gifts to the employees.

I am hoping to hear from you.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Shraddha Kapadia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three requested points: it identifies the event as a retirement party, gives the date, time, venue and format, praises the food, decoration and staff, and explains the microphone problem. The details about the crew member taking group photos and making reels also make the positive feedback specific. Your criticism is clear and linked to its effect on the gift presentation. To strengthen the response further, develop the improvement suggestion more fully—for example, request that the hotel test or replace the microphone before future events. The closing could also state more directly that you hope the feedback will help improve future service. Overall, the purpose and tone are clear and appropriate for a letter to a hotel manager.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information is arranged in a clear sequence: you introduce the purpose, describe the event, give positive feedback, and then explain an area for improvement. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these shifts, and phrases such as “Apart from this” and “The only thing” signal the relationship between ideas. The progression is logical throughout. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and “Apart from this” does not add a distinct point as smoothly as it could. The final “Thank you” and “I am hoping to hear from you” also feel somewhat detached from the feedback. Use more natural transitions and connect the closing to a specific request or hope for future events.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range for the purpose, including relevant event vocabulary such as “retirement party,” “conference room,” “cocktail party,” and “distributing gifts.” Phrases such as “extremely helpful” and “quality of the food” communicate your evaluation clearly, while “a plethora of photos” shows an attempt to use less common vocabulary. Some choices are less natural or precise in this context: “organised” is better paired with “an event” than “a retirement party” here, and “the arrangement of the conference room” is vague when the problem is specifically the microphone. “Crew members” may also be less suitable than “hotel staff.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and a consistently professional tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains easy to understand. The event details and the explanation of the microphone issue are conveyed clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, including “It held on 14th October,” where the passive form “It was held” is needed, and “It should have a good quality of microphone,” which needs a clearer structure such as “There should have been a good-quality microphone.” In “Even service was really good,” an article is missing. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit accuracy. Review passive verb forms, articles, and sentence construction, then proofread for these patterns.
