Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing about the recent wedding event that was organized at your hotel. I booked the hotel for my sisters wedding on 21st April. The hotel services included decor steup, backgroung music and variety of desi cuisines. The event was booked in daytime. It was actually very hard to find a hotel in daytime as all of the premises in my area were already booked.

I really liked the overall vibe of the hotel and lighting was vibrant as expected. The staff was very coperative and pro-active in their assigned tasks. Particularly, I liked the food that was so scrumptious that everyone was linking their fingers. The presentation and taste of sweet dish was also very apetizing.

My family and guests had a good experience but I want to highlight some areas of improvement. I think your hotel is very expensive. The extravagent amount of money doesn't actually fulfil the overall services. The parking was also not very well organzied and guests had to wait due to long car ques.

Although, I really appreciate the overall experience and would also give a good rating in my reviews.

Yours sincerely,

Daryal Gam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: it identifies the event as your sister’s wedding, gives the date and daytime booking, describes what you valued, and raises concerns about cost and parking. Your positive and critical views are both clear, and details such as the food and guests’ waiting time make the response relevant. To strengthen the development further, explain more precisely what the high price failed to provide—for example, which service or expectation did not match the cost. The improvement suggestions are also implied rather than directly stated; you could ask the hotel to review its pricing and organise parking more efficiently. Overall, the purpose and tone are clear throughout, with some points more fully supported than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear sequence: the event is introduced first, positive features are described next, and areas for improvement come before the closing appreciation. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these stages, and linking phrases such as “Particularly,” “but,” and “Although” show the relationships between ideas. The progression is easy to follow, though some connections could be more precise. For instance, “The extravagant amount of money doesn't actually fulfil the overall services” is difficult to connect clearly to the earlier statement that the hotel is expensive. State directly that the price did not seem justified by the services received. A more purposeful closing request would also link the criticism to the hotel’s future improvements.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing the event and your evaluation, including “vibrant,” “pro-active,” “scrumptious,” and “presentation.” These choices help convey enthusiasm, and the reader can understand the main points despite some inaccurate or awkward wording. There are several spelling errors, including “steup,” “coperative,” “apetizing,” and “organzied,” and some expressions are not natural in this context: “linking their fingers” and “extravagent amount of money.” Aim for accurate spelling and conventional collocations, especially in a formal letter. More precise language for the cost concern and parking problem would make your evaluation clearer and more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter includes both simple sentences and more developed structures, such as “Although, I really appreciate the overall experience and would also give a good rating in my reviews.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, and the range is sufficient to describe the event and express contrasting views. Some grammatical errors remain. In “my sisters wedding,” the possessive form should be “my sister’s wedding”; “The hotel services included decor…” would be clearer as “The hotel’s services included…”; and “the taste of sweet dish” needs an article or plural form, such as “the taste of the dessert.” The opening “Although” clause is also punctuated awkwardly when used as a complete closing sentence. Review possessives, articles, and clause punctuation to improve accuracy.
