Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. Iam writing this letter to show gratitude regarding your cooperation in the recent event that was held in your prestigious hotel and I would also like to give a review about the facilities and how you can improve you services.
This annual event was held in your hotel last month, all the senior members of our company were present there. I really liked the warm welcome and hospitality of your staff. They are very professional and passionate towards their duties. The ambiance was spectacular and the amenities provided in the hotel were outstanding.
Overall it was such a delighful experience. But I would like to draw your attention to some issues I faced. Firstly, the quality of food provided was not good. The strawberry tarts were not fresh and the meat dishes were not cooked properly. Moreover, the air conditioners were not working properly, which caused great inconvenience. I hope that you would look into these problems and try to resolve them at your earliest convenience.
yours sincerely,
Anadil Noel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: it identifies the occasion as the company’s annual event held at the hotel last month, praises the staff and facilities, and describes problems with the food and air conditioning. The specific examples—strawberry tarts that were not fresh and meat that was not properly cooked—make the improvement request relevant and clear. The appreciative tone is also appropriate for writing to a hotel manager. To make the response more fully developed, give a little more context about the event, such as its purpose or approximate size, and explain the practical effect of the problems on attendees. The request to resolve the issues is clear, though a more explicit suggestion for preventing them at future events would strengthen the final point.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear progression: an opening purpose, details and praise, then concerns and a request for action. Paragraphing helps distinguish the positive comments from the areas needing improvement, and transitions such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “Moreover” guide the reader through the points. The ideas are easy to follow throughout. Some linking is a little formulaic, however, and the first paragraph combines the purpose of the letter with a broad statement about reviewing the hotel. You could make the progression more natural by stating the event details first, then grouping the praise and concerns, and using a more specific transition into the suggestions. The closing is appropriately placed, although consistent capitalization in the sign-off would polish the presentation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The response uses a suitable range of vocabulary for a formal review, including “hospitality,” “professional,” “amenities,” “spectacular,” and “inconvenience.” These choices communicate both appreciation and dissatisfaction clearly, and the food examples add useful precision. Some expressions are less natural or precise: “show gratitude regarding your cooperation” is awkward in this context, while “passionate towards their duties” and “draw your attention to some issues I faced” could be expressed more idiomatically. There are also spelling and form slips, including “Iam” and “delighful.” Greater control of collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more fluent and flexible while preserving the appropriate formal tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the relative clause in “the event that was held” and the reason clause in “which caused great inconvenience.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the sequence of past-tense event details is generally understandable. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. The opening sentence is a run-on, joining several independent ideas with “and”; split it into shorter sentences or use clearer clause structure. The sentence beginning “This annual event was held” also joins two complete clauses with a comma. In addition, “how you can improve you services” has an incorrect pronoun form, and the sign-off should begin with a capital letter. More accurate sentence boundaries and proofreading would strengthen control.
