Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my positive experience with a recent event that I organised at your hotel. I organised my company 25th anniversay event at your hotel on Tuesday, October 15th. There are several activities and games were planned to entertain the staff members and our special guests.
Your team did a wonderful job with the arrangments. The decoration and seating was excellent. Everyone really praised that lightining and other facilities at the event. Several drinks and starters were served to the guests and the staff was very polite and welcoming.
I really appreciate the efforts of your hotel staff. However, I would like to suggest some improvements needed in some areas. The supper was little spicy and cold. Due to this, some staff members who could not able to tolerate spicy food avoid the supper. Another problem, was poor parking space. Our guest struggle to park their cars and waited for longer periods for parking spaces. I would like you to please give attention to these areas.
My company members and everyone was very delighted by the excellence staff service provided by your hotel and we will happy to oragnise our future events at your facility.
Yours sincerely,
Harnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly addresses all three requested points. You identify the event as your company’s 25th anniversary celebration, describe positive features such as the decoration, seating, lighting, refreshments and staff, and give two specific areas for improvement: the food and parking. The closing also makes your intention to use the hotel again clear. These details make the purpose and overall evaluation easy to understand, and the suggestions are relevant. To make the response more fully developed, explain the food issue and its effect a little more precisely, and indicate what change you would like the hotel to make, such as offering milder dishes or ensuring meals are served hot. The parking concern could likewise include a practical suggestion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the event, describes what went well, raises concerns, and ends with a positive statement about future events. Paragraphing supports this structure, and transitions such as “However” help signal the shift from praise to suggestions. The reader can follow the main points without difficulty. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. For example, “Another problem, was poor parking space” interrupts the flow with an unnecessary pause, while the final paragraph repeats the positive evaluation rather than adding a distinct closing point. You could improve cohesion by linking each concern directly to its requested remedy and using a concise closing sentence that thanks the manager and expresses your hope for improvements.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal complaint-and-praise letter, including “arrangements,” “facilities,” “welcoming,” “tolerate,” and “parking spaces.” These choices communicate the event and the concerns clearly, and the tone remains courteous. There are, however, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural collocations, such as “anniversay,” “lightining,” “excellence staff service,” and “organise … at your facility.” “The supper was little spicy” also needs a more natural expression. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “excellent service,” “anniversary celebration,” and “food was too spicy.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex sentences, for example, “Due to this, some staff members who could not able to tolerate spicy food avoid the supper.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors recur and make parts of the writing less controlled. Examples include “There are several activities and games were planned,” “the staff was very polite,” and “we will happy to organise,” which show problems with clause structure, agreement, and verb forms. Articles and sentence punctuation also need attention, as in “The supper was little spicy” and “Another problem, was…” To improve, build sentences around one clear main clause, check subject–verb agreement, and review verb patterns such as “could not tolerate” and “will be happy.”
