Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Hotel Manager,
I am writing this to share my experience about my company's event held on Saturday evening in your renowned hotel. Actually our previous booking for our company's conference was suddenly canceled and I am extremely thankful to you guys who managed to make the arrangements for us on the spot when I called for a space for our conference.
What I liked the most about your hotel is your staff's time management skills as they handled this meeting arrangements promptly and with that too in such a short period of time. Moreover, the food was fantastic and beyond our expectations, especially the main course.
However, your services are quite expensive as compared to the nearby hotels but everything was worth a penny. So it was not a big concern for our team.
Thank you for your great service, and I will defintely consider for place for our next event.
Kind regards,
Isha Isha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The letter is relevant and includes the event, a positive feature, and a concern: you explain that the company conference was arranged at short notice, praise the staff’s prompt handling and the food, and mention the cost. However, the task asks you to suggest areas for improvement, and saying the services are expensive while adding that the cost was “not a big concern” does not clearly request a change. The event details are also quite limited: the reader learns it was a conference on Saturday evening, but not its purpose, scale, or how the arrangements worked. The response therefore addresses the task only partially, with ideas that need clearer development. State a specific, polite improvement request, such as reviewing prices or offering a package for company events.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The ideas follow a generally clear sequence: you explain why you contacted the hotel, describe what you appreciated, then raise a concern and close the letter. Connectors such as “Moreover” and “However” help signal the shift between points, and the paragraphs make the message easy to follow. This gives the letter a coherent overall arrangement. Some linking is less natural or precise, though: “and with that too in such a short period of time” makes the praise for the staff difficult to process, while “So it was not a big concern” weakens the relationship between the complaint and your conclusion. Use simpler links and give each paragraph a clear purpose, especially separating the improvement request from your overall thanks.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal complaint-and-feedback letter, including “arrangements,” “promptly,” “beyond our expectations,” and “main course.” These choices communicate your appreciation and concern clearly, and you attempt some less common phrasing. However, several expressions are inaccurate or awkward for this context: “renowned hotel” sounds overly grand, “you guys” is too informal for a manager, and “worth a penny” is not the natural expression here. There is also a spelling error in “defintely,” and “consider for place” is unclear. Aim for precise, natural collocations and maintain a consistent formal tone; for example, say that the cost was “worth the price” and that you would “consider the hotel for our next event.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as the opening sentence with a relative clause and the sentence beginning “However.” Most of the message remains understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your meaning. Some grammatical problems nevertheless reduce accuracy. In “I will defintely consider for place for our next event,” the verb needs an object and the phrase needs an article: “I will definitely consider your hotel as a venue for our next event.” The construction “as they handled this meeting arrangements” also needs a possessive determiner (“these arrangements”) and a more suitable verb pattern. Review articles, determiners, and verb complements, and simplify sentences when several ideas are joined together.
