Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter reaches you in good health. I am Prashanti Mistry, an employee at Bluestar, our company recently had an award function at your hotel 'Taj'.
First of all, our company organize an annunal award function every year to appreciate shinning stars of our company and a discussion on working projects for upcoming year. We had this event last week from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm followed by buffet dinner which is consider as most important moment for employees as well as company.
I would like to mention that the sound system and sitting arrangement of a conference was extraordinary. Moreover, the food was delicious but there are limited option of vegetarian counters. So, I suggest you to balance hotel menu equally for vegetarian and non-vegetarian, also some people complains about air conditioning.
Last but not the least, I hope for better improvement in the particular areas of an event. I am thankful to your staff members and managers for your support in smooth completion of an event.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Prashanti Mistry

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requested points: it explains that Bluestar held an annual awards event, identifies the sound system, seating and food as positives, and suggests improving vegetarian options and air conditioning. The event details, including its purpose, timing and buffet dinner, make the message relevant and clear. The positive comments are specific, while the improvement suggestions are less fully developed: for example, you could explain how the limited vegetarian choices affected guests or describe the air-conditioning problem. The closing thanks the staff and maintains a suitable purpose. To strengthen the response further, develop each point more evenly and make the requested improvements more precise, while retaining the clear, relevant coverage already present.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: you introduce yourself and the event, describe its purpose and schedule, then discuss what worked well and what could improve before closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “First of all,” “Moreover” and “Last but not the least” guide the reader through the letter. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the final paragraph repeats the general idea of improvement without adding a specific point. The transition from praise to criticism could also be smoother. Use a wider range of natural links and ensure each paragraph advances the message; clearer references, such as specifying which event arrangements you mean, would make the progression more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and your evaluation, including “award function,” “buffet dinner,” “sound system” and “vegetarian counters.” There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “shining stars,” though this is not the most natural choice for employees receiving awards. Several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation problems reduce precision: “annunal,” “shinning,” “sitting arrangement,” and “limited option” should be corrected or replaced. Phrases such as “better improvement” are also repetitive in meaning. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but more accurate, natural combinations would make the letter sound more professional and demonstrate greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, such as the sentence explaining the event’s purpose and the sentence describing the dinner. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “our company organize” needs a past-tense verb to match the event, and “there are limited option” has a number-agreement error. The opening also joins two independent clauses with only a comma: “I am Prashanti Mistry, an employee at Bluestar, our company recently had…” Separate these ideas or connect them with an appropriate conjunction. Review articles and sentence boundaries as well, including “a conference” in the seating sentence. More accurate control of these patterns would improve clarity.
