Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing this letter on behalf of my company, that we attented an event last month on 23 September at your hotel.
At your hotel last month me and my co-workers came for our 10th anniversary of work. It was such a great and welcoming experience we had at your hotel. We all spent such a great time there, the atmosphere and place was too quiet and pleasant. Furthermore, best thing was the spacious dinning area and arrangement for the games everybody enjoyed a lot that evening.
The only main concern that i would like to draw your attention on was the disorganised arrangement of restrooms and their cleanliness. As we were expecting to have atleast two restrooms for everybody as you know based on number of people, but we had to face a problem there was only one restroom was available at that time another was locked as when i talked to staff they mentioned its reserved for different event, I found that inapropriate customer experience. I hope in future it would be improved for others with my feedback to have a great experience.
Thankyou for your time and consideration.
Yours Faithfully,
Ashlay

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: it identifies the company event and date, describes positive features of the hotel, and raises a concern with a request for improvement. Details such as the anniversary, the pleasant atmosphere, the dining area and games, and the restroom issue make the purpose clear. The complaint is supported with an explanation that one restroom was locked for another event, and the closing remains appropriately courteous. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the event itself—for example, how many people attended and what kind of event was organised—and make the improvement request more specific, such as asking the hotel to ensure sufficient, clean facilities are available to every group.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The message has a recognisable progression from the event, to what you enjoyed, to the problem and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps separate the positive comments from the complaint, and connectors such as “Furthermore” and “As” show attempts to link ideas. However, some transitions and references are awkward or unclear: “At your hotel last month” repeats the opening, while the long sentence beginning “As we were expecting” combines the expected number of restrooms, the locked facility, and the staff’s explanation. This meets the lower-band expectation of an overall coherent arrangement, with some higher-level organisation already present. Use shorter sentences and clearer links, and avoid repeating the same time and location details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and your reaction, including “welcoming experience,” “spacious dining area,” “disorganised arrangement,” and “cleanliness.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions such as “draw your attention” and “time and consideration.” However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice or collocation errors reduce precision: “attented,” “dinning,” “inapropriate,” and “customer experience” in this context. Phrases such as “the atmosphere and place was too quiet” and “the only main concern” are also unnatural or imprecise. Build a more reliable range of formal letter vocabulary and check spelling and common word combinations so your meaning sounds natural and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the explanation of the restroom problem and the conditional idea “as you know based on number of people.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully, and errors sometimes make the reader work to follow the meaning. For example, “I am writing this letter on behalf of my company, that we attended…” has an incorrect clause structure, and “there was only one restroom was available” contains a faulty verb construction. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “the atmosphere and place was” and the long sentence about the locked restroom. Practise building accurate clauses and separating related points into complete sentences.
