Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding the event i organized at your hotel for my company.
On August 3rd 2026 i organized a conference for my organization Samco industrial company at your hotel number 28 st Michael Street Aba Nigeria. It was a huge event because it only happens once in four years and it attracts dignitaries from several areas of life. It is an opportunity for our firm to honour people that have done extremely well in their various departments of the company, and also encourage others to do better.
However, all our guest that came for the occasion, speaks highly of the hotel especially the area of environmental cleanliness. personal, i am pleased with the level of hygiene your hotel, this has made our organization to adopt your hotel as our permanent venue for our conference.
In my opinion, i strongly suggest your hotel should hire armed personnels to improve the security of the hotel and increase the confidence of your guest.
Kind Regards,
Howell Howell.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter covers all three requested points: it explains that the event was a company conference, praises the hotel’s cleanliness, and recommends improving security. The details about its four-year schedule and the purpose of recognising employees make the event relevant and reasonably clear. The praise also gives a specific reason for choosing the hotel again. However, the improvement suggestion is less fully developed: hiring armed personnel is proposed, but the letter does not explain whether there were security concerns or suggest a more specific, proportionate measure. To strengthen the response, briefly explain the concern and clarify what change you would like the manager to consider.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a generally logical sequence: the opening states the purpose, the next paragraph describes the event, and later paragraphs cover the hotel’s strengths and a suggested improvement. This makes the letter easy to follow overall. Paragraphing also helps distinguish the main points. Some connections and references are less smooth, however. The paragraph beginning “However” does not present a clear contrast with the event details, and “this” in the following sentence could refer either to the cleanliness or the hotel’s hygiene standards. The final suggestion would connect more naturally if introduced as a separate, clearly signposted recommendation. Use linking expressions according to the relationship between ideas and make references explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes some relevant, more formal choices, such as “dignitaries,” “honour,” “hygiene,” and “permanent venue.” These help communicate the event’s importance and the hotel’s positive qualities. There are also several imprecise or unnatural expressions, including “area of environmental cleanliness,” “the level of hygiene your hotel,” and “increase the confidence of your guest.” Some word forms and spellings, such as “personnels,” reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording—for example, describe the hotel’s “cleanliness and upkeep” and refer to “guests’ sense of security.” This would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including a relative clause in “people that have done extremely well” and a purpose clause explaining why the event is held. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. In “all our guest that came for the occasion, speaks highly,” the plural subject requires a plural verb, and the comma is unnecessary. “I am pleased with the level of hygiene your hotel” needs a grammatical link, such as “at your hotel.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “i” and “personal.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use longer structures; greater accuracy across these forms would improve control.
