Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to extend my gratitude for the support from the hotel and its employees to a successful event which was organised by myself.
The event was about the employee appreciation which took place on 22nd july, wednesday. Once every year, the company like to award the best employees who helped to achieve the targets and goals. Moreover, The director of the company will annonce the finacial growth and shares next year's targets.
Overall, the staff of the hotel were very welcoming, and helped in making the necessary arrangements for the event. Furthermore, we really like the auditorium because there were all necessary gadgets which were useful for the presentation.
I would like to end my letter with a few suggestion which could help the hotel to attract more customers. Firstly, if there is chance to extend the auditorium hall which could fit more guests. Moreover, there is a need to improve the parking lot.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: it explains that the event was an annual employee-appreciation occasion, identifies the welcoming staff and equipped auditorium as positives, and suggests enlarging the hall and improving parking. These details make the response relevant and show the beginnings of a clear, appropriate message to the manager. However, the event description and improvement suggestions are not equally developed: for example, the purpose of the event is explained, but the number or type of attendees and how the proposed changes would help are not specified. To strengthen the response, add a little more concrete detail to each point and close with a suitable sign-off so the letter feels complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear sequence: the opening explains the reason for writing, the next paragraph describes the event, and later paragraphs cover what you liked and what could improve. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these purposes, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” make relationships between ideas clear. The progression is generally easy to follow, though some transitions feel formulaic, and “Overall” does not clearly signal a shift from event details to positive feedback. The final paragraph also ends abruptly after the parking suggestion. Use a more direct transition between the event and hotel feedback, and add a brief closing sentence and sign-off to give the letter a more finished structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “employee appreciation,” “auditorium,” “presentation,” and “targets.” The meaning is generally clear, and the tone is appropriately appreciative. Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however: “support … to a successful event” and “necessary gadgets” are imprecise, while “extend my gratitude” is rather formal for this straightforward letter. There are also spelling errors in “annonce” and “finacial,” and “suggestion” should be plural in context. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this will make the message sound more fluent and precise without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the company like to award” needs a singular verb, and “if there is chance to extend the auditorium hall which could fit more guests” is an incomplete, awkwardly formed suggestion. The sentence about the director also shifts between future and present forms. Work on complete conditional suggestions, such as “It would be helpful if the auditorium could be extended,” and check subject–verb agreement and article use. These adjustments would improve accuracy while preserving the range of sentence forms you are attempting.
