Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir / Madam,

Hope you are well.

I am Sushant from the marketing team at BOSCH. I am writing this letter to you for conveying a vote of thanks for the fabulous arrangements that you had done for our leadership connect event that took place in your hotel.

We hosted around 150 senior leaders on 27th October 2026, for the full day. We had this event in the main ballroom of the hotel. This was definitely one of the biggest senior leadership headcount we have ever hosted. This is annual event that we happens toward the end of the year. This is done to celebrate key milestones for the year and plan for the next year. We have received a very positive response on the organisation of the event. Everybody particularly liked the amazing activities that you had planned, it was relevant to the topics of discussion. The enagement area was also very conducive for startegic discussions. The hotel staff was very courteous. I remember, many attendees asking for a paper and a pen for writing. I understand your hotel being cosncious of sustanability, doesn't allow papers but yet these requests were fulfilled. These small things make the overall experience extraordinary. The food was also great with many options for people who don't prefer meat. The sound system, lighting and the seating arrangement was done well.

If I have to suggest one area for improvement, that will be car parking management. While exiting, the waiting time to get your car was high. It could have been managed better.

Overall it was a very good show.

Thank you

Kind Regards,

Sushant Barthwal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter clearly addresses all three requirements: it explains the event, identifies what worked well, and gives a specific improvement. Details such as the 150 senior leaders, the date, the full-day programme, and the ballroom make the event easy to understand. Your praise is supported with examples, including the activities, staff courtesy, food options, and technical arrangements. The parking issue is also clearly identified, although the suggestion that it “could have been managed better” would be stronger if you proposed a practical change, such as improving the exit queue system. The purpose and appreciative tone remain clear throughout; developing that recommendation and refining a few broad comments would make the response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible overall order: opening purpose, event details and positive feedback, then an area for improvement and a closing. This makes the message coherent and easy to follow. However, the main body is a long block containing several different points, so the event description, praise, and parking suggestion would be clearer in separate paragraphs. Some links are also repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated “This is” sentences. The shift from “I” to “we” is understandable but could be managed more consistently. Use paragraph breaks to signal each stage of the letter and vary transitions so the relationships between details are clearer without relying on repeated sentence openings.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal thank-you letter, including relevant expressions such as “senior leaders,” “strategic discussions,” “courteous,” and “seating arrangement.” These help convey the event and your appreciation. There are, however, several spelling errors, including “enagement,” “startegic,” “cosncious,” and “sustanability,” which reduce accuracy. Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise: “vote of thanks” is not the most natural way to describe a letter of appreciation, and “senior leadership headcount” sounds overly technical. Aim for natural collocations and proofread carefully; more precise wording would make the praise and improvement point sound more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most meaning remains clear. For example, the sentence beginning “I understand your hotel…” attempts to combine an explanation with a contrast. Some grammatical errors remain, however. “This is annual event” needs an article, while “that we happens” has incorrect subject–verb agreement and tense. “The sound system, lighting and the seating arrangement was done well” also has a subject–verb agreement problem and an awkward passive construction. The opening “Hope you are well” is an incomplete sentence, and punctuation around “I remember” is not well controlled. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, then edit longer sentences for accuracy.
