Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing with regards to an event held in your hotel yesterday. I'm glad that our company chose your hotel to celebrate our 50th anniversary. As organizers of the important event, we felt pressured and unsure if the event will be according to our plan. On the otherhand, Your hotel staffs were accomodating with our needs in organizing the event. They also lend as a hand in preparing it. Your establishment was also spacious, allowed us to maximize our resources and had a proper ventililation which I liked the most.

I must say that, it is indeed a right choice, I was happy that our organizers were not exhausted in decorating because one of the hotel's truck help us ove our things needed.

I woud like to suggest for the better improvement of your hotel that, we can use an RFI card to access the door, it will become more efficient and less baggage for the guests.

Yours truly,

Zyra

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you identify the occasion as your company’s 50th anniversary, describe positive features of the hotel, and suggest an improvement to door access. The details about staff assistance, space and ventilation make the praise relevant, and the proposed access card gives the manager a specific action to consider. This meets the task well, although some points are less fully developed than others. For example, the event description is brief, and the suggestion would be clearer if you explained how the card system would benefit guests or reduce inconvenience. To strengthen the letter further, add a little more context about the event and make the improvement request more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from the event and your positive experience to a suggestion and an appropriate closing. The main ideas are generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “I would like to suggest” signal shifts in purpose. However, the contrast marker “On the other hand” does not fit the praise that follows, and the second paragraph repeats the positive evaluation rather than developing a distinct point. Some links between ideas are also unclear, particularly the connection between the hotel’s truck and the claim that organisers were less exhausted. Grouping the praise together and using more precise transitions would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “organizers,” “spacious,” “ventilation” and “access”-related language. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “maximize our resources.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy and naturalness: “otherhand,” “accomodating,” “ventililation,” “ove” and “RFI card.” Some phrases are awkward or imprecise, including “a proper ventilation” and “less baggage for the guests.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they make parts of the letter harder to interpret. Check spelling carefully and choose conventional collocations, especially when describing hotel facilities and guest convenience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “As organizers of the important event, we felt pressured and unsure if…” and a sentence describing the hotel’s space and ventilation. The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “our company chose your hotel to celebrate” could be expressed more clearly as “to host our celebration,” while “one of the hotel's truck help us” has problems with number and verb agreement. There are also issues with tense consistency in “unsure if the event will be according to our plan,” and punctuation around “I must say that, it is indeed a right choice.” Review agreement, tense, articles and sentence punctuation, while continuing to practise complex sentence forms.
