Dear Sir / Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to provide you a feedback on the behalf of my company 'The Law'.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for giving us opportunity to organise a function in your hotel 'The Taj'. It was held last Wednesday in the conference hall. The seating plan was for 20 people as discussed.
I would like to appreciate the efforts your team had made to make this event successful. Personally, I liked the catering service; all our visitors were extremely happy with the food. Also, the environment was too quiet; which helps our company to conduct a meeting formally.
However, I would like to highlight a few areas where improvements can be done, which include: professionalism and water facility. All the visitors were greeted too casually and the water arrangements were not meeting the standards.
I am thankful for you.
Yours faithfully,
Harshdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: the event is identified as a company function for 20 people in the conference hall, you praise the catering and quiet setting, and you mention concerns about staff professionalism and water arrangements. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. However, the improvement points are only briefly stated: “greeted too casually” and “water arrangements were not meeting the standards” do not explain what happened or what change you would like. The event description could also include its purpose or duration. The response is 148 words, so it does not meet the 150-word minimum. Add a little specific explanation and a courteous, practical request for improvement to develop the content more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: it opens with its purpose, describes the event, gives positive feedback, and then turns to areas for improvement. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Also,” and “However” help the reader follow the points. The closing is also easy to identify. Some linking is slightly mechanical, and the colon after “which include” makes the transition into the list feel abrupt. The sentence beginning “Also, the environment was too quiet” is joined to its explanation with a semicolon in a way that interrupts the flow. For stronger cohesion, connect related details more naturally and use a brief concluding sentence that reinforces the request or expresses hope for future cooperation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for a formal hotel letter, and phrases such as “catering service,” “conference hall,” and “seating plan” communicate relevant details. You also attempt more formal expressions, including “highlight a few areas” and “professionalism,” though some choices are inaccurate or unnatural. For example, “provide you a feedback” and “on the behalf of my company” do not use the expected collocations, while “water facility” is vague. “The environment was too quiet” may also suggest that the quietness was excessive, rather than a positive feature. Choose more precise, natural phrases and explain the water issue specifically. This would improve flexibility and accuracy while keeping the tone appropriate for a manager.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including “I would like to appreciate the efforts your team had made to make this event successful.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your message. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. In “giving us opportunity,” the singular count noun needs an article, and “the efforts your team had made” uses an awkward tense sequence for describing the event. The clause after “Also” is punctuated as though it were a separate sentence, although it depends on the preceding idea. The closing sentence, “I am thankful for you,” also has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Review articles, tense consistency, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to practise varied sentence forms.
