Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to thank you for hosting for over company event at your hotel and to share my feedback.
Our company organised its annual dinner at your hotel on Saturday, 26th October. Around 200 employee and guest attented the event. The event was held in main hall from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
I particularly like the food and the service. the dinner was delicious and serve or on time. Your staff were very polite and helpful.
However, I would like to suggest some area for improvement. Firstly, parking area is not enough for guest. Secondly, The sound system was not clear during the speech. Lastly, main hall air condition was not work well.
I would appreciate if you could improve this things and in future we will also make event you and in your hotel.
thank you for your understanding
Your faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter covers all three required points: it identifies the annual dinner, gives its date, attendance and timing, praises the food and staff, and lists three areas to improve. These details make the purpose clear and keep the response relevant. However, some points are not fully developed: the praise is brief, and the suggestions do not explain how the problems affected guests or what practical changes would help. The response is also three words below the required minimum, so it does not fully meet the task’s length instruction. A little more detail about the event and the requested improvements would make the message more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: purpose, event details, positive comments, concerns, and a closing request. Paragraphing supports this progression, and signposts such as “However,” “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly” help the reader follow the suggestions. This clear overall organisation is a strength. Some linking is mechanical, though, and the final paragraph combines the request for improvements with a future booking intention in a confusing sentence. The closing also feels detached from the main message. To make cohesion more natural, connect each concern to a specific request and use a clearer, more complete closing sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main points, with relevant terms such as “annual dinner,” “main hall,” “sound system,” and “staff.” The writer also uses polite expressions, including “I am writing to thank you” and “I would appreciate.” However, several word-choice, spelling, and word-form errors reduce precision: “hosting for over company event,” “employee,” “attented,” and “make event you” are unclear or inaccurate. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “parking area is not enough for guest.” Use more accurate collocations and check spelling and plural forms; for example, describe the parking as “insufficient for the number of guests.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter uses mostly simple sentences, with some attempts to combine ideas, and its meaning is generally understandable. There are some grammatical errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “Around 200 employee and guest attended” needs plural nouns, while “the dinner was delicious and serve or on time” has an incorrect verb form and an unclear structure. “I would appreciate if you could improve this things” also needs a more accurate clause and demonstrative. Capitalisation is inconsistent after full stops, as in “the dinner” and “thank you.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and plural agreement, while adding a few controlled complex sentences to vary the structure.
