Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, many people think it is more affordable if the government produces fruit and vegetables. However, others argue that the government should put a tax on unhealthy food. This topic has become a common discussion in government. In my opinion, although both views have some reasons, I believe that the government should decide for its own community because it has benefits, especially for the people in that place.

On one hand, there are several reasons why people believe that fruit and vegetables should be made more affordable. Firstly, some unemployed people have only a limited allowance for their daily living. This is because, they need to be a wise man manageble. For example, a senior citizen they can't afford to buy a expensive foods, especially if they have no one or there is no one else to support them financially. As a result, the senior citizen they need a healthy foods for their health.

On the other hand, many people believe the government should put a tax on unhealthy food. The main reason is that many people want to build and develop their businesses because the tax. For instance, the government its helps them to put on tax of it from the cusumers.

In conclusion, both sides have their own points. However, I believe that the government supports and provides for the community's needs because it can provide more benefits for individuals and society. It could help also for the restaurant to develop their business if thier pu tax on it. A balance between these ideas may be the best solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You introduce both proposed approaches and give a general preference for government support, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the discussion is only partial: the affordability argument is illustrated through older people and limited income, but the explanation is unclear, while the case for taxing unhealthy food is not meaningfully developed. The claim that tax helps people “build and develop their businesses” does not explain how a tax on unhealthy food would improve health or why this policy is beneficial. Your position also shifts between government support, letting each community decide, and a “balance” of the ideas. State a consistent opinion and explain both policies with clear reasons and relevant examples to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs beginning “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. These signposts help readers identify the two sides. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, particularly in the second body paragraph, where the link between taxation and business development is difficult to follow. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, as in “This is because” followed by an incomplete explanation, and the conclusion introduces a restaurant-business point that has not been established earlier. Improve the logical links between each claim, its explanation, and its example, and make the conclusion reflect the position developed in the body.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “affordable,” “unhealthy food,” “tax,” and “community,” and these terms make the general subject clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make ideas difficult to understand. For example, “a wise man manageble” does not communicate the intended idea, and “put on tax of it from the cusumers” is unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “cusumers” and “thier.” Aim for precise phrases that express the policy effects, such as “reduce the cost of fresh produce” and “discourage consumption of unhealthy food.” Check spelling and use natural collocations so the reader can follow your reasoning without having to infer your meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use basic complex structures, including “although both views have some reasons” and “This is because…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and plurals sometimes make the meaning hard to follow. For example, “a senior citizen they can't afford” combines two subjects, while “they need a healthy foods” has problems with agreement and number. The sentence beginning “This is because” is also not formed correctly. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then connect them with subordinate clauses. Review articles and singular/plural forms, and punctuate clauses carefully; this will make your ideas easier to understand.
