Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people have an opinion that higher officials should subsidize the prices of fruits and vegetables, while others think that they should implement more taxes on junk food.I agree with the first one and second one will create inequality in society.

Nowadays communities belonging to different socioeconomic backgrounds, are fully aware of benefits of natural and raw products. By selling these products on lower prices, will encourage people to buy and eat more fruits and vegetables which will ultimately improve the health of a population. These measures will decrease health care burden on countries and the revenue can be spend on subsidizing healthy products. So this viscious cycle will be a great advantage for people. For instance many developing countries such as America, Germany, Canada are working on this policy so that their nations have more organic food.

On the other hand, few of the people argue that instead of lowering rates of raw and fresh food, state should make a policy of putting high taxes on fast food. But this will only restrain the poor ones, while they see rich people enjoying more variety and perks which will lead to rage among society. This initiative will have no role in improving health and decreasing ratio of obese people. Contrary to this, it will promote negativity in society and also create a more gap among different classes. Eating fast food will become a style symbol for rich communities while lower class will be in inferioriy complex for not affording junk food. Instead of collecting more revenue for the nation it will encourage rage and rivlary among people.

In conclusion to promote healthy lifestyle and discourage obesity, government should spend funds on lowering prices of organic food while putting high taxes on processed food will have no role on peoples' health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both proposed approaches and state a clear preference for subsidising fruit and vegetables, while also explaining why you oppose taxing unhealthy food. The health benefits and reduced healthcare burden are relevant reasons, and the discussion of how a tax might affect poorer people gives the second view some development. However, the claim that taxes would not improve health is asserted rather than supported, and the example that “America, Germany, Canada” are pursuing this policy is unclear and does not convincingly illustrate the point. Your conclusion also introduces support for taxing processed food, which conflicts with the earlier claim that such taxes have no role. Clarify your final position and develop the comparison with more precise evidence or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrastive opening of the second body paragraph (“On the other hand”) helps readers follow the discussion, and ideas generally progress from policy to possible consequences. This meets the lower-band expectation of clear overall organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, links are occasionally mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “This” and “Instead of,” and the reference in “this vicious cycle” is not fully clear. The conclusion also weakens the progression because it appears to endorse taxing processed food after arguing against that policy. Use more precise referencing and ensure the final paragraph consistently reflects the position developed earlier.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “subsidize,” “socioeconomic backgrounds,” “health care burden,” “obese,” and “processed food.” These choices allow you to discuss policy and social effects, and some less common expressions show an attempt to be precise. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or awkward: “higher officials” is not the natural term for government, “lower prices” is better than “lower rates” for food, and “create a more gap” is unclear. Spelling errors such as “viscious,” “inferioriy,” and “rivlary” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural policy collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas sound more precise without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “while they see rich people enjoying more variety” and a relative clause in “which will lead to rage among society.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “By selling these products on lower prices, will encourage people” lacks a clear subject, while “the revenue can be spend” has an incorrect verb form. There are also article and agreement problems in “state should make a policy” and “a more gap,” as well as punctuation spacing issues after full stops. Work on complete sentence structures, verb forms after modal verbs, and articles. Proofreading these patterns would improve accuracy while preserving your range of sentence types.
