Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary era, food choices have become an important concern for individuals and governments. While some people believe that the government should reduce the prices of fruits and vegetables, others argue that unhealthy food should be taxed. This essay is an attempt to analyze both the views and giving my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, it is easy to understand why government should reduce fruits and vegetables prices. When healthy food items available at cheaper rate, then people who belongs to poor people they can afford it and they can improve their health. For example, low-income families can afford apples, organges and vegetables instead of relying on cheap processed food. Moreover, when people consume healthy and balanced diet then the risk of diseases such as heart attack, obesity, and diabetes can be declined on some extent and people can enjoy life with their family and friends. Government subsidies could help struggling families purchase nutritious food without exceeding their monthly budgets.

However, when government imposed heavy tax on unhealthy food items then people can avoid their purchasing habit because it puts burden on their monthly budget. For instance, higher taxes on sugary drinks and fast food may encourage consumer to choose healthier food and water. At this time people consuming sugary drinks which create the obesity problem at young age that can be reduced. When government impose tax they can generate huge amount of revenue which they can invest in hospitals, education and affordable nutrition programmes.

In the final analysis, in my opinion making healthy food cheaper is more beneficial instead of levying taxes on junk food items. When healthy food is affordable and families with limited incomes can make healthier food choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear preference for making healthy food more affordable. The first body paragraph explains how lower prices could help low-income families and links healthier diets to reduced disease risk; the second discusses how taxes might influence purchases and raise revenue. These are relevant reasons and examples. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the tax argument is presented mainly as a possible deterrent, without considering drawbacks such as the greater burden on low-income consumers. Your final opinion is clear, but its supporting explanation is brief and the conclusion ends without fully completing the thought. Develop the comparison and explain more fully why subsidies are preferable to taxation to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding paragraph. Transitions such as “To commence with,” “However,” and “In the final analysis” make the progression easy to follow, and examples generally appear alongside the relevant claims. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of progression. At times, however, linking feels formulaic, and connections between sentences are not always smooth—for example, “At this time people consuming sugary drinks” does not clearly connect its claim to the preceding point. The final paragraph also feels abrupt because the last sentence does not complete the explanation. Use more natural transitions and ensure each paragraph develops its point through a clear sequence of claim, explanation, and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “low-income families,” “processed food,” “nutritious food,” “sugary drinks,” “subsidies,” and “affordable nutrition programmes.” These choices help communicate the main ideas and show attempts to use more specific language than basic food-related terms. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however, such as “reduce fruits and vegetables prices,” “avoid their purchasing habit,” and “declined on some extent.” There are also spelling errors, including “organges,” and some repetition of “government” and “people.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Practise common collocations for prices, consumption, and health outcomes, and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional reasoning (“When healthy food items available at cheaper rate, then people…”) and a relative clause in “which they can invest in hospitals.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include missing verbs or articles in “When healthy food items available at cheaper rate,” subject–verb agreement in “people who belongs,” and inconsistent verb forms in “when government imposed” and “When government impose.” The final sentence, “When healthy food is affordable and families with limited incomes can make healthier food choices,” is an incomplete clause, which weakens the ending. Work on complete sentence formation, agreement, articles, and consistent tense; then check each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb.
