Student answer (Band 6.5)

Regarding healthy choices of food individuals have different prefrences. Some people believe that healthy food options like vegetables and fruits should be affordable while, other think that authorities should impose higher taxes on unhealthy food. In this essay, I will evaluate both of these point of views and will give my opinion.

People who say that government should make fruits and vegetables cheaper give their reasons as follow they believe that because of the high cost of healthy food such as vegetables and fruits people cannot afford it and add little in their diet which is essential for healthy body. Moreover, if government reduce the cost of these food items then the consumption of healthy food will certainly increase as a result human will live healthy life and can contribute better in the economy. On the other hand side, people will avoid to spend money on junk food because now at less price they can have better food. For example, most of the people will choose 1 dollar apple over 4 dollar chips pack.

On the other hand side, some individuals believe that government should put higher taxes on fast food because it will increase the price of the food and then the demand will decrease automatically. People often pick the junk food because it is cheap as compare to fruits and vegetables. Additionally, this collected money can be used in other aspects such as for improving education or healthcare. For instance, if the price of the burger will increase from 5 to 9 dollars then there is high probability that folks might will not buy it and look for healthy option in the same price.

In my opinion, government should follow combined approach where the price of the vegetables and fruits should be cheap, so that everyone can have it regularly in their diet and the cost of the packed food should increase by imposing more taxes on it. In this way, mankind can have healthy food and they can avoid junk food.

In conclusion, health is a wealth and only healthy people can contribute better in the growth of the nation. By making healthy option affordable government can help people to have healthy food and by surging the price of packed food via taxes can stop individuals to but it more frequently. It will be win win situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both proposed policies and state a clear preference for combining them: making produce cheaper while taxing packaged or junk food. The two body paragraphs explain plausible effects, including increased healthy-food consumption and reduced demand for fast food, and the apple-versus-chips and burger-price examples help illustrate these points. This meets the task well, with a position maintained through the conclusion. Some claims, however, are broad rather than fully explored—for example, that healthier people will “contribute better in the economy” is asserted without explaining the link. The discussion of tax revenue being used for education or healthcare is relevant but brief. Develop these implications with a little more explanation or qualification to make the support more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your own position, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In my opinion” make the stages of the argument clear. There is some overuse of the same transition, particularly “On the other hand side,” and several sentences rely on “and” or “then” to connect ideas, which makes cohesion somewhat repetitive. The opening sentence of the first body paragraph also runs directly into the explanation without a colon or full stop. Use a wider range of linking methods and clearer sentence boundaries, and make references such as “this collected money” more explicit, to make the flow smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “impose higher taxes,” “consumption,” “demand,” and “combined approach,” so the main ideas are communicated clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “contribute better in the economy,” although some combinations sound unnatural or imprecise. Spelling errors include “prefrences” and “but” where “buy” is intended; other choices such as “packed food” and “folks” are less suitable for this formal essay. Repeated use of “healthy food,” “junk food,” and “price” also limits variety. Aim for accurate collocations and a consistently formal register, for example, “fresh produce,” “processed food,” and “reduce the cost of living” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if government reduce the cost … then the consumption … will certainly increase.” However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. Examples include “government reduce” instead of “the government reduces,” “the demand will decrease” after a singular subject is acceptable but the surrounding phrasing is awkward, and “folks might will not buy it,” which combines two modal forms incorrectly. The opening body sentence also joins a claim and its explanation without clear punctuation. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they reduce accuracy. Check subject–verb agreement and modal patterns, and divide long sentences where needed.
