Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify two relevant reasons for cosmetic surgery’s popularity: changing appearance and treating conditions such as cleft palate or cleft lip. However, the response does not fully answer either question. It gives only a brief explanation of popularity, with no developed reasons such as social-media influence, celebrity culture, or greater access to procedures, and it does not state whether this trend is positive or negative. The examples are relevant but are not explained or supported. The response is also substantially below the required minimum length, leaving the task largely incomplete. To improve, state a clear view on the development and develop both the causes and your evaluation with specific explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic progression: it introduces cosmetic surgery, refers to appearance-related procedures, and then mentions medical cases. The contrast signalled by “while” helps connect the two reasons, and the final example is relevant to the topic. However, there is no clear paragraph structure or developed sequence of ideas, and the response ends without a conclusion or an answer to whether the trend is positive or negative. The sentence beginning “It is popular because” combines several points without explaining how they relate. Organise the essay into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for popularity and your evaluation, and a conclusion; use linking phrases to show the relationship between each claim and its example.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “cosmetic surgery,” “appearance,” “medical purpose,” and “cleft palate or cleft lip,” so the main subject is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific wording, such as “enhancement of their beauty.” However, the range is narrow, and several spelling errors—“agrued,” “peole,” and “suger ies” (written as “suger ies” in the response)—reduce accuracy. Some expressions are also unnatural: “gives new appearance” and “cosmetic surgeries done in case of” do not form idiomatic phrases. Build a wider set of accurate terms for causes and effects, and check spelling and collocations. For example, “improve their appearance” and “procedures to correct congenital conditions” would be clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a compound structure in “Some people choose these to change their appearance, while others for medical purpose,” and the opening sentence is a complete simple sentence. However, the range is very limited, with most ideas compressed into one long sentence rather than developed through varied structures. There are grammatical problems in “while others for medical purpose,” where the second clause lacks a verb, and “gives new appearance,” where the article is missing. The phrase “cosmetic surgeries done in case of…” is also not a complete clause in this context. Use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and practise combining clauses accurately—for example, “Others undergo surgery for medical reasons, such as correcting a cleft palate.”
