Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, individuals prefer to stay alone rather than sharing home and this trend has been increasing rapidly . There are numerous reasons behind this situation. In this essay, I will explain the causes behind this in the upcoming paragraphs. Despite of having short term benefits, Its long term negative impacts cannot be denied. In my opinion, it is a negative development.

Living alone trend is quite common to see in this time period. There are many reasons behind this changing lifestyle and immigration is one of them. Many people go overseas, for studies and to find job opportunities for their career. Because of this people live far from their family and they don't have any other option to live alone. Moreover, in this cut throat competition era, masses are competing with each other and trying to improve themselves so hard. For studying hard or getting excellent in their exams leaners choose to stay alone because it is easy to focus on study when there are less distractions around. For example, in India most of the students who are preparing for Civil Services live alone and don't share their space with other so that they can completely dedicate their time to their academics and can crack exam and fulfill their dream to become an IAS.

Living alone has short term benefits and can help people to achieve their goals and master their skills but if folks will continue to stay alone then in the future, they can encounter its deteriorating impacts in all aspects of their lives. When we live in a family or share our space with others then we can share our emotions with people whether we are stressed or over joyed. But those who live alone don't have this opportunity and get exhausted by doing everything by themself. Sometimes work related and study related stress make a person mentally and physically tired and then it ends up with depression and anxiety related diseases. For instance, many studies shows that a person, who lives alone mostly suffered with anxiety, stress and depression at some point of their life as compared to those who live with their family. So eventually , it is a negative development.

In conclusion, this is the demand of the day and living in a family or sharing home is not possible for everyone due to some privacy and career reasons. However, mankind need to understand its negative impact than can occur if they will make this habit and prefer to stay alone for their entire life. Man is a social animal so we do need people around us who can be with us in our ups and downs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and maintain a clear view that living alone is a negative development. The reasons you give—moving abroad for study or work and seeking a quieter environment for exam preparation—are relevant, and the Civil Services example makes one point more concrete. You also explain possible effects, including reduced emotional support and stress. This meets the task well, but the two causes are not explored equally: the discussion of studying alone is more specific, while the work and immigration point is stated broadly. The claims about mental-health outcomes would also be stronger with careful qualification or a clearer explanation of how isolation contributes to them. Further development and support would make the argument more consistently convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, the body paragraphs separate causes from effects, and the conclusion returns to your view. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and examples help connect claims to explanations. Cohesive expressions such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” guide the reader, though some transitions feel formulaic or are used where the relationship is already clear. There is also some repetition of the central idea of living alone, and references such as “this situation” and “its negative impact” could be more precise. To strengthen progression, make each paragraph’s main point explicit and use pronouns and linking phrases only when their reference or logical function is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range to discuss the topic, including phrases such as “career reasons,” “distractions,” “emotions,” and “anxiety and depression.” There are also attempts at more expressive vocabulary, such as “cut throat competition” and “deteriorating impacts.” However, some choices are unnatural or imprecise: “stay alone” is less suitable than “live alone,” “getting excellent in their exams” is awkward, and “over joyed” is not the intended form in this context. Several phrases also sound overly dramatic or broad, which reduces precision. Aim for natural collocations and a consistent formal register; choosing familiar, accurate wording is more effective than inserting uncommon expressions that do not fit smoothly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures and clauses beginning with “when” and “because,” and the overall meaning remains clear. However, some grammatical errors recur and limit control. For example, “Despite of having” has an incorrect construction, “if folks will continue” uses an unsuitable verb form after “if,” and “many studies shows” has subject–verb disagreement. There are also issues with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “share their space with other” and the comma-heavy sentence beginning “For instance.” Review conditional forms, agreement, and article use, then proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve clarity and control.
