Student answer (Band 6.0)

Opinions are divided between weather historic structures such as town halls and art galleries should be reconstructed regardless of it's highly expensive or authorities should build new buildings which will take their place. I personally think that spending more money on maintance of old construction is better than replacing them with modern bhuildings becuase it will help attract tourism as well as keep the history of particular place alive for new generation.

To begin with, historic sculptures which are maintained by governement at the cost of 10 thousand dollars per month is getting more attention from people from other countries. To elaborate, the history connected with these structures are becoming center of attraction for people and they are willing to pay fees just to enter that property which is eventually helping managers to make more money than spending. For instance, according to the times news money made by Taj Mahal last month was double than what they spent on it.

Furthermore, keeping this places in thier original condition will help upcoming humans to connect themselves to thier ancestors. To explain, anything which has been built when they were not even born will make them curious about how they made it possible. This curiosity will lead them to read the past and find out who made it and how they are related to them. For example, study conducted by cambridge university proved that kids between the age of 18 to 20 are more tend to look for history books after visiting a heritage site.

To conclude, both the arguments are strong yet i will consider preserving our history at any cost is more important than new building because it helps making money and keep us connected to our past.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you favour restoring historic buildings, and you give two relevant reasons—tourism income and helping younger people connect with the past. The examples of the Taj Mahal and a Cambridge study also support these points. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the case for replacing old buildings is not developed: you do not explain possible benefits such as improved facilities, safety, or lower maintenance costs. Some support is also difficult to assess, particularly the claim about maintenance costs and the study’s findings. Develop the opposing view and explain how your examples support your argument more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons for restoration, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation, and the paragraphs each have a central focus. To make the flow more flexible and complete, include a paragraph or section on the opposing view rather than moving directly from one supporting reason to another. Some links between sentences are also abrupt, and references such as “this places” and “they” are not always clear. Use more precise referencing and connect examples explicitly to the point they illustrate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “historic structures,” “maintained,” “tourism,” “ancestors,” and “heritage site.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and there are attempts at less common expressions such as “center of attraction.” However, the range is limited in places, and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make the writing less natural: “reconstructed” is not quite the same as restored, “maintance” is misspelled, and “upcoming humans” is an unsuitable phrase for future generations. “Historic sculptures” also misidentifies buildings. Build a more precise vocabulary for preservation and redevelopment, and check spelling and collocations so that your meaning is consistently clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and explanatory structures beginning “To elaborate” and “To explain.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms recur. For example, “the history … are becoming” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “historic sculptures … is getting” also mismatches subject and verb. In “kids … are more tend to look,” the verb pattern is incorrect, and “regardless of it’s highly expensive” does not form a grammatical clause. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise agreement, verb patterns, and clause construction, then proofread sentence boundaries.
