Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether the governments should invest in restoring old monuments or focus on constructing modern buldings. Some people believe that historical buildings such as townhalls and art galleries, should be restored even if the process is expensive. Others argue that organization should concentrate on building new and modern facilities. In my point of view, I believe that old buildings should be restored because they help preserve our history and our culture
On the one hand, some people believe that old building should be rebuilt because it will help our future generation to learn about our history and our culture. If these historical monuments should be maintained properly will attract tourist and also generate good revenue for the government. Furthermore, retoring thes building will also preserve old architectural and tradition of old methods. For instace, an old temple is good in condition , but the color is not in good condition. Therefore they will ust repaint it and save from demolisation.
On the other hand, some individuals believe that constructing modern buildings will bring new facilities and improved safety. For example, modern hospitals will bring new technology which will help to treat more people easily. Moreover, it will also accomodate many peoples in the citys as the population is increasing daily.
In conclusion, although constructing new buildings will bring facilities and safety, I believe that preserving our old history will help our future generation to know about their roots and also became great tourist sport for the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a clear preference for restoring historic buildings, linking this to cultural preservation and tourism. The discussion of modern construction also gives relevant reasons, particularly improved hospital technology and capacity for a growing population. However, the ideas are only partly developed: the temple example focuses on repainting but does not explain how restoration compares with replacement or why the building’s value justifies the cost. The benefits of modern buildings are also presented briefly, without considering their costs or limitations. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason with a specific consequence or example, and make the comparison between the two options more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some of the clearer progression associated with a stronger performance. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical, with “Furthermore” and “Moreover” adding points without fully showing how they relate. The reference in “Therefore they will just repaint it” is also unclear: it is not immediately evident who “they” refers to. Use more precise referencing and connect examples directly to the claims they support.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “historical monuments,” “architectural,” “facilities,” “technology,” and “population,” so the reader can understand the main discussion. There are also attempts to express ideas beyond basic everyday language. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “townhalls,” “retoring thes building,” “tourist,” and “tourist sport” are examples. Some phrases, such as “preserve old architectural and tradition of old methods,” are difficult to interpret because the wording is not natural or specific. Build a more accurate set of phrases for heritage and urban development, and check spelling and word forms carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If these historical monuments should be maintained properly…” and a contrast introduced by “although.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences. For example, the conditional clause is not followed by a grammatically complete main clause, and “although constructing new buildings will bring facilities and safety, I believe…” needs a clearer grammatical relationship between its ideas. There are also errors in articles, plurals, and agreement, as in “old building” and “many peoples.” Aim to make each sentence complete and check subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms, while continuing to practise complex clauses.
