Student answer (Band 7.5)
In modern society, many people believe that old architecture, like artifacts galleries or community halls must be preserved at any cost, whereas there is a section of society that believes in remodeling them into contemporary buildings. It seems to me that buildings of historical significance should be preserved whenever possible and in this essay I'll being discussing both the notions along with my opinion.
Those who support having old building restored argue that those pieces have historic value to the society. They believe that place like art galleries holds evidence of hardships that world has went through like world wars, painting by famous artists and many more. Places like these helps younger generation to understand about the origination of world. Additionally, structures such as historic town halls, and art galleries often attracts tourists, contributing to local economy. Although restoration can be expensive, it should be viewed as long term investment in preserving national heritage.
On the other hand, people believe that replacing old buildings with modern structure can greatly improve public safety. Many historic buildings were constructed decades or even centuries ago and may no longer meet current safety standards. In regions that are prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, or hurricanes, these ageing buildings are often more vulnerable to structural damage. By contrast, modern buildings are designed using advanced engineering techniques and disaster-resistant technology, making them far more resilient. As a result, replacing unsafe buildings can help protect both human lives and valuable public property.
In my opinion, governments should adopt a balanced approach. Buildings that have historical, cultural, or architectural significance should be restored to preserve a nation's heritage and identity. However, if an old building poses serious safety risks or cannot withstand natural disasters despite restoration, replacing it with a modern, disaster-resistant structure is a more practical and responsible decision.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly present both sides of the argument and provide a personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant and well-supported with logical reasoning, such as the economic benefits of tourism for restoration and the safety implications of modern construction. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that your introduction is more polished; for example, 'artifacts galleries' is slightly unnatural phrasing. Overall, the development of ideas is sufficient and the response is well-focused on the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the two viewpoints and your own opinion is smooth. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'On the other hand', 'Additionally', and 'As a result'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the argument. The flow of information is easy to follow, and the relationship between sentences is generally clear, which contributes to a coherent and well-structured piece of writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'historical significance', 'long term investment', and 'disaster-resistant technology' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'artifacts galleries' (instead of 'historic galleries' or 'museums') and 'origination of world' (instead of 'origins of the world'). While these do not impede communication, refining these collocations would elevate the lexical quality. The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task and shows an attempt to use more sophisticated language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several error-free sentences, and your control over grammar is generally good. However, there are some persistent minor errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('place like art galleries holds' should be 'places like art galleries hold') and article usage ('the world' instead of 'world'). Additionally, there is a tense error in 'world has went through' (should be 'has gone through'). Despite these slips, the meaning is always clear, and the errors do not significantly interfere with the reader's understanding.
