IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly. Others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the Modern era, with the development of technology there has been a lot of change in fast few decades. .There are some individuals who consider that keeping an old building , town halls and some art galleries is compulsory even if it is costly of it to maintain. However opposite side people says it should be replaced with new one . i will discuss both views and will give my opinion.

To Begin with, folks who believe it should be maintain because they consider as it has some culture values. To elaborate, there are many historic building in many countries which has special meaning of it. Such as, near railway station in Jagraon, Punjab there is a building and more than 200 people gave their lives in 1946 for freedom and many people are visiting that building just for that reason . if such building can not be restored then there is no purpose any place .More over such places generate much revenue to nation as it has some ticket price which helps economy to develop. Therefore , people believe such building should be restored.

However, other side admit that because of old buildings and art galleries there is a lot of issues such as nearby areas cannot be developed which makes problem to people . To elaborate a survey conducted in Asian country there is more traffic problem nearby old buildings because they were not planned to hold the traffic and such buildings are major reason there. that is why some believe it should be replaced.

In conclusion, i agree the town halls, and some buildings who has cultural and historic meaning, those building should be restored and maintained at any cost. However, other should be replaced and renovated with modern technology.
