Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as cultural preservation versus modern maintenance. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The arguments for restoration are better supported than the arguments for replacement, which remain a bit generic. The conclusion clearly states your position, which is a strength. To reach a higher band, ensure that the arguments for the opposing view are as thoroughly developed as your own, perhaps by providing a specific example of how modern infrastructure benefits a city's economy or efficiency.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition to this', and 'To recapitulate' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'To elaborate' and 'To exemplify' are used in a formulaic way. Additionally, the referencing in the final paragraph ('the old town') is slightly ambiguous as you previously referred to 'old buildings' or 'art galleries'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary', 'multifarious', and 'cognitive ability'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'ancient art is the only thing that can helps' is grammatically awkward, and 'new evolvement' is not a standard collocation. There is also a tendency to repeat basic words like 'buildings' and 'modern'. To improve, focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring that your word choices sound natural in an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'can helps', 'building can stay long time') and article usage (e.g., 'the Taj Mahal' is correct, but 'the Mughal' is not). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in spacing and comma usage. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for basic agreement errors and ensuring that complex structures are formed accurately.
