Student answer (Band 6.5)
An increased number of people believe that old buildings such as, town halls and art galleries should be restored. This is because, old buildings show the art of hand crafting and the knowledge about history. Whereas, others argue that, replacing them with a modern shopping malls will let people explore various shops at a single building. I personally believe that restoring old buildings is a better idea.
To begin with, an old building is a symbol of the hard work and a pure dedication towards a job. For example, visiting an old museum allows people from the latest generation, to know about their history. Moreover, Visiting old sculptures and watching pictures from the past will help them understand the value of the hard work and the importance of time. Similarly, it will tell the youngsters about the importance of the people who got martyred in the wars,
Others argue that, the old buildings should be replaced with modern buildings such as the shopping malls. Community believes that constructing new shopping centers will help people to start their new business, as it contains multiple stores. Therefore, it will improve an employment rate in the region and help buyers to buy multiple items from a single buildings. Moreover, a shopping mall also needs a parking lot, which will also help in increasing jobs.
In conclusion, despite the fact that new buildings improve an employment rate in the region, I personally believe that old buildings should be restored. This is because, it will help the community to understand the values of money, time, family and the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the historical value of old buildings, the arguments regarding modern buildings are a bit generic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, instead of just mentioning 'shopping malls,' you could discuss the economic impact of urban regeneration versus the cultural loss of heritage. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing or repetitive sentence structures. Some transitions feel a bit forced, and the referencing is sometimes slightly unclear, such as the transition between the historical importance of buildings and the mention of 'martyred in the wars,' which feels like a sudden shift in topic. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'restored,' 'dedication,' and 'employment rate.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'art of hand crafting' (which should be 'craftsmanship') and 'Visiting old sculptures' (you visit sites, not sculptures). The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Attempting to use more sophisticated collocations related to urban planning or cultural heritage would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in punctuation and grammar. For example, there are unnecessary commas after 'such as' and 'argue that,' and some issues with article usage (e.g., 'an employment rate' should be 'the employment rate'). Additionally, there are minor errors in subject-verb agreement and sentence fragments. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent punctuation and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
