Student answer (Band 6.5)

The restoration of historical buildings is a hot topic among group of people where one part wants to protect the old building while other are in favour of replacement of these buildings with sky scraper buildings. The primary advantage of saving art galleries is protection of old memories. However, by replacing town halls with new buildings government can improve the infrastructure of cities.

To begin with, old town halls and museums are great source of historical events which represents the great art from legendry people. Art galleries have collection of paintings, old musical instruments which were played in old times and not even exist in modern time, weapons used during world wars etc. For instance: The Jalliawala Bagh museum still hold all the historical weapons which were used in 1919 attack on Amritsar. Therefore, it is evident restoration of old buildings is crucial to save historical art in order to relive old incidents.

On the other hand, world is changing rapidly, nations are upgrading their living standards by improving infrastructure of cities. Old town halls are kind of barrier like sometimes enterprenaur wants to setup new powerplants or industries in cities but because of old building or art galleries they have to change the location as public authorities do not grant them the orders to demolish it. Hence, we can say it is important to replace old buildings in order to adapt new changes.

To conclude, I would like to say old buildings are great source to save historical art however sometime the replacement of it is required to build the new world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a specific example regarding the Jallianwala Bagh museum, the argument for replacing buildings is less developed and relies on a somewhat generic scenario about entrepreneurs and power plants. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and that your personal opinion is more clearly integrated throughout the essay rather than just appearing in the final sentence. The response is relevant, but the depth of analysis could be improved by discussing the cultural or economic implications in more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'not even exist in modern time'. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, but more sophisticated linking words and a wider variety of cohesive devices would improve the overall flow and help the essay move beyond a simple list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'restoration', 'infrastructure', and 'demolish'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'hot topic among group of people' (should be 'a group of people'), 'legendry' (spelling error: 'legendary'), and 'not even exist' (should be 'no longer exist'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices are grammatically and contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' vs 'a'), pluralization ('sky scraper buildings'), and subject-verb agreement ('museum still hold'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences are slightly clunky. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules such as article usage and verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while ensuring they remain error-free will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
