Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits of modern infrastructure versus the cultural value of historical preservation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding tourism and social media is a good point, but it could be expanded with more specific detail to fully support the claim. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and all parts of the prompt are addressed, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Despite the abovementioned', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Referencing is generally clear, although there are occasional lapses in flow due to awkward phrasing. The logical progression is evident, moving from the modern perspective to the preservationist view and finally the conclusion. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'old culture becoming fade' instead of 'fading' and 'higher authority' instead of 'the government'. Some phrases are repetitive, and there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'ameliorate country's financial situation' where the verb usage is incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles with more sophisticated collocations, which is characteristic of a Band 5.5 or 6.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('city become more modern'), article usage ('in any art galleries'), and tense consistency. Some sentences are structurally awkward, such as 'when law maker should spend more money on restoring these building it create more positive impact'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not consistently impede communication. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control is inconsistent, leading to a score of 5.5.
