Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people thinks that historical buildings, like town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even it can be costly. Others believe that governments should replace with modern building. My essay will discuss the both views before comes to my opinion.
Firstly, old buildings always represent our history. To explicate it, if there will be no historical building, then people will forget their history about their culture. For instance, last year one survey was conducted which showed that, country like Pakistan still have 95 % old buildings and so when people see that town halls, they start doing research and in this way everyone have knowledge about history. As a result, by keeping stored these art galleries help communities to get knowledge about their culture.
Secondly, by replacing old town halls with new one help people to make feel safe. To explain this, almost all old buildings were designed with old infrastructure and after 50 or 70 years that bulding are no longer safe to stand still, this will increase the chances of collapsing. For example, an article was published by CBC in america revealed that, in 2022 almost 70% old building were fell down due to old infrastucture. So by replacing old halls with new modern ones is very safe and will last long.
In conclusion, although there is no doubt that old art galleries definitely represent our culture, but I opine that by replacing with modern buildings is much safer idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear opinion. However, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, the supporting examples—such as the claim that 70% of old buildings in America fell down in 2022—lack credibility and appear to be invented, which weakens the argument. To improve, you should aim to expand your explanations and ensure your examples are realistic and well-integrated to fully meet the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'by keeping stored these art galleries'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your supporting points would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. You use basic terms like 'old buildings' and 'new buildings' throughout. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'explicate it' (which is overly formal/unnatural in this context) and 'fell down' (which is a phrasal verb that could be replaced by more academic alternatives like 'deteriorated' or 'collapsed'). Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the essay contains frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Some people thinks'), missing articles ('in america'), and incorrect verb forms ('replacing with modern buildings is much safer idea'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on proofreading for basic errors and increasing the accuracy of your complex sentence constructions.
