Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people belive that while old buildings like museum and towm halls, should be saved, although It may be expensive. whereas ohthers opine that replacement sholud be done. There are two main reasons why people think that either buildings should restored or we should demolish them. I think making modern buildings is more beneficial.

One main reasons why people want to preserve old buildings despite It would be costly, because they want stay connected with their roots and history. They think these buildings are the main source of history and are gifted by their ancestors. They are emotionally connacted with these bulidings. When they visit in art gallerie or towm halls with their childern, they want to show them the originality and traditional values. So that their culture and history remain unforgetable among upcoming genrations.

Turning towards other side, those are in the favour of replacing with new buildings because of the space. Due to increasing population and industrilization people need more land. The buildings are designed according to open spaces and they occiped a lot of space. For new infrastructure such as building new roads, industries, airports. The Government need enough space. As a result building sky- scappers could be benifical for the lack of the land.

In my opinion, making new buildings are more fruitful, because new bulidings may be designed according to modernization. New facilites such as the use of elevatours, screen system, video and audio projects are more reliable sources in order to presents history. Consequently, Young people would be attracted towards these buildings.

To sum up, even though some people like to restored old buildings owing to preserve their orginiality and some people believe that these bulidings should be replaced with new buildings due to the scarcity of land. I think construction of new building would be more advantageous because it may attract more youngster.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the importance of cultural heritage versus the practical need for space and modernization. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument for new buildings could be further supported by discussing economic or environmental impacts rather than just focusing on 'elevators' and 'screens'. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6 level, as some points remain slightly superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices, such as 'Turning towards other side' and 'To sum up'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate (e.g., 'Turning towards other side' should be 'Turning to the other side'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'belive', 'towm', 'ohthers', 'sholud', 'connacted', 'bulidings', 'occiped', 'sky-scappers', and 'orginiality'. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality. The range of vocabulary is limited to common words, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. Improving spelling and expanding the range of synonyms would significantly enhance this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'Some people belive that while old buildings... should be saved, although It may be expensive' (incorrect use of conjunctions) and 'making new buildings are more fruitful' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
