Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a topic of argument for public weather the ancient monuments should be renovated or rebuild like townhalls and art galleries. The both sides of this topic will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs along with my opinion.

According to the first side of above mentioned topic, old buildings needs to be restored. These locations have a deep impact on the present generation as they could get to learn about the history. For example, The Taj Mahal in India has been there since years that indicates how this place was build with old technology and with limited sources. Moreover, it is a shadow of the historical events that sometimes related to someone's personal life. By rebuilding them can impact on the community.

On the other side of the coin, replacing the ancient monuments could be better to preserve the beauty of the area. Although it would be modern, but will be stand there for long like town halls that could attract many tourist by seeing the combination of historic and modern life. Furthermore, the places like art galleries are expensive to restore. Rather than restoring them , is is a better idea to build new ones. For instance, according to a survey conducted in US in 2020, it is proved that by reestablishing new building at the place of older ones were worth money and attract 32% more tourists.

In conclusion, my opinion is in favor of preserving the historical building than constructing the new ones. The reason of my viewpoint is that in today's modern life, people do not have much knowledge about the historical things because they have everything of their needs in a modern way. by visiting restored old buildings like town halls and art galleries can show them how new technology had introduced with the ideas made in past.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for restoration is supported by the example of the Taj Mahal, but the explanation of how rebuilding impacts the community is vague. Similarly, the argument for new buildings relies on a specific statistic, which is a good attempt at support, but the reasoning remains slightly superficial. The conclusion clearly states your position, but the explanation provided there could be more logically connected to the previous arguments. To improve, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with clear links to the main topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other side of the coin', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'It is a topic of argument for public weather'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences lack smooth flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'renovated', 'ancient monuments', and 'reestablishing'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'public weather' (likely meant 'public whether'), 'worth money' (should be 'cost-effective' or 'worth the investment'), and 'how new technology had introduced'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of collocations and checking for common word-choice errors will strengthen this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'old buildings needs to be restored' (subject-verb agreement), 'since years' (incorrect preposition), and 'by visiting... can show them' (dangling modifier). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, they are noticeable. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures will help improve your accuracy.
