Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is debate among two groups of people regarding preservation of ancient buildings. some people feel although it would be expensive to repair old buildings such as town halls or art galleries still it should be done. Whereas other folks opt that constructing new buildings will be a great idea. I am going to discuss both notions along with mine.

First of all, there is no doubt that previous infrastructure gives us a lot of information about our previous culture. Not only these buildings tell us about ancient living style but also help us to find many kinds of aspects related to our past generation. For example, researcher found many items of Sindhu Sabha Ghati and place them in art galleries so people can get to know how much ahead of their time people were in that time.

Moreover, replacement of art galleries or town halls cannot pass knowledge to next generation.

On other hand, in today society housing is the main concern. people do not have enough space for making their shelters. Even though art galleries or town halls tell us about past roots still there is need of new buildings to fulfill the requirement of housing crisis, thus, it is also good idea to focus on modern needs instead of preserving old things.

To conclude, according to my point of view there should be a balance. for example, some town halls which are totally vacate should be reconstructed in new buildings but art galleries which teach today generation about our culture should be remain same.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the cultural value of old buildings and the practical need for housing, the arguments could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, the example of 'Sindhu Sabha Ghati' is relevant but lacks sufficient detail to fully support the point about cultural preservation. The conclusion provides a balanced view, which is good, but ensure that your main body paragraphs provide more robust support for each side of the argument to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'On other hand', which help the reader follow your argument. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the phrase 'On other hand' is missing an article ('the'), and the connection between the housing crisis and the conclusion could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the ideas are generally easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'preservation', and 'reconstructed'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'previous infrastructure' (when 'historical' or 'heritage' would be more precise) and 'totally vacate' (should be 'vacant'). Additionally, 'previous culture' and 'past generation' are slightly repetitive. To improve, try to use more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning and historical conservation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in today society', 'on other hand'), subject-verb agreement issues ('researcher found' instead of 'researchers found'), and punctuation errors (missing commas after introductory phrases). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles, pluralisation, and sentence-level punctuation to improve your control over complex structures.
