Student answer (Band 6.5)

Old structures are considered to be the heart of city but modernisation cannot be neglected. Gone were the days where people were interested in gaining historical knowledge. The idea of rebuilding ancient monuments or galleries while neglecting developement of new projects might not be a wise decision. The following essay will shed light on both view points with subsequent opinion.

I strongly believe, authorties should prioritize building new projects keeping in mind developement of overall economy. To add up, the growth of a country depends on its infrastructure and total GDP, in order to create new jobs in country and attracting more foreign investment. Expounding further, new day structures are well planned and are built keeping in mind environmental and housing needs of the city. The engineers plan the blueprint of city keeping in mind the long term needs of people. Thirdly, a well structured map is necessary for the municipality needs and to manage traffic of city.

while on the contrary, other set of group believes that rebuilding old townhalls and art galleries could be a good idea. Indeed it can be helpful in attracting tourism and keeping intact the goodwill of ancestors. But the fact that it will be a financial burden as well as the space being occupied by these buildings can be very well used to satisfy modern day needs.

Pondering upon, I opine that latter notion will make more sense from and economical perspective while ignoring emotional views of a handful of people perspective.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the development of ideas. While the arguments for modern infrastructure are relevant, the discussion on the opposing view is somewhat brief and lacks depth. The conclusion is also quite abrupt. To improve, you should expand on your supporting points with more specific examples or detailed explanations to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To add up', 'Expounding further', and 'while on the contrary'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in a more natural, sophisticated manner would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'modernisation', 'infrastructure', and 'foreign investment'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'developement' and 'authorties'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'new day structures' and 'keeping intact the goodwill of ancestors'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you should aim to use more precise collocations and ensure accurate spelling to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Gone were the days where people were interested' (should be 'when'), 'other set of group' (should be 'another group'), and 'from and economical perspective' (should be 'from an economic perspective'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing articles and preposition errors. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve accuracy.
